Position Summary

The Computer Technician / Help Desk Support Specialist is an entry-level role providing first-line technical support to internal end users, resolving common hardware, software, and account issues through the company's ticketing system. This is a great opportunity for someone early in their IT career to build hands-on troubleshooting experience while working alongside more senior IT staff. The ideal candidate is a quick learner, comfortable with computers, and eager to develop their technical skills in a supportive, mentorship-driven environment. Prior professional IT experience is not required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Answer and log incoming help-desk tickets, phone calls, and walk-up requests, prioritizing routine issues and escalating complex ones to senior technicians.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting on desktops, laptops, printers, and peripherals under the guidance of senior IT staff.
  • Assist with installing and updating operating systems, standard business applications, and antivirus/security software.
  • Help set up new employee accounts, email, and system access, and assist with equipment for onboarding/offboarding.
  • Set up workstations, monitors, keyboards, docking stations, and basic peripherals for employees.
  • Perform simple password resets and account unlocks in Active Directory / Microsoft 365.
  • Help troubleshoot basic connectivity issues (Wi-Fi, printers, shared drives) and escalate network issues as needed.
  • Accurately document all support work in the ticketing system, including steps taken and resolution.
  • Maintain and update the equipment/asset inventory as directed.
  • Assist senior technicians with imaging computers, hardware refresh projects, and equipment deployments.
  • Follow established IT procedures and company security policies at all times.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic familiarity with Windows and/or macOS operating systems and common office software (email, Word, Excel).
  • Strong desire to learn and grow in an IT support career.
  • Good communication skills and a friendly, patient, customer-service mindset.
  • Ability to follow written instructions and troubleshooting checklists.
  • Comfortable working both independently on simple tasks and as part of a team on larger ones.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Coursework, certificate, or degree in IT, computer science, or a related field (or currently pursuing one).
  • CompTIA A+ certification or actively working toward it.
  • Any hands-on experience with computer setup, repair, or troubleshooting (personal, volunteer, internship, or coursework).
  • Basic understanding of networking concepts (Wi-Fi, IP addresses, VPN).

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Primarily office-based with regular movement between workstations and equipment storage areas.
  • Ability to lift and carry IT equipment up to 30 lbs (monitors, towers, printers).
  • Ability to sit, stand, kneel, and reach to help install or move equipment.
  • Standard business hours, with occasional flexibility needed to support onboarding or scheduled maintenance.
