The Privacy & Data Protection Engineering (PDPE) organization safeguards appropriate data stewardship while instilling confidence that security and privacy considerations are systematically mitigated site-wide. As part of PDPE, Privacy Infrastructure Engineering (PIE) acts as a strategic cross-functional partner alongside Privacy Engineering and broader technical organizations across Netflix.
PIE champions end-to-end data protection by engineering, assessing, and deploying foundational systems across the data lifecycle. This scope encompasses designing and scaling horizontal privacy architectures, automating privacy rights fulfillment, and leveraging systematic gap discovery to evaluate risk and back core investments - whether utilizing internally built capabilities or external solutions. To achieve this, the team maintains deep technical alignment with key cross-functional partners in Data Platform Infrastructure, Data Sciences Engineering, Security, Legal, and Product.
We are seeking a Senior Engineering Manager for PIE to lead and scale a high-performing team of software and privacy engineers developing scalable capabilities that meet complex compliance demands while accelerating core business initiatives. Working closely with executive leadership, you will craft multi-year strategic roadmaps for consent, data collection, and user privacy controls integrated natively across our expansive data ecosystems. Given our operating scale, success requires rendering decisive technical guidance and cultivating cross-discipline alignment to deliver platform capabilities that abstract foundational privacy requirements for product teams.
As a leader for this team, you will use your strong technical expertise combined with that of the team in the areas of:
- Pragmatic, forward-looking vision: crafting multi-year strategic roadmaps for infrastructure while making decisive choices within fluid, rapidly shifting environments.
- Demonstrated success leading and scaling substantial engineering organizations, backing technical credibility with system architecture expertise while cultivating talent through inclusive mentorship and top-tier hiring.
- Background developing data protection or privacy tooling across diverse domains - including consent architectures, classification frameworks, retention policies, and governance - utilizing systematic gap discovery to evaluate risk and back core investments.
- Track record leveraging GenAI capabilities to automate data protection goals, driving user experience innovations and establishing key performance indicators for executive visibility to mitigate organizational risk.
- Aptitude for integrating continuous feedback loops to refine program effectiveness and drive long-term impact.
Desired skills and background
- Experience leading and growing a large engineering team, including managers or leads, with a hands-on technical background. Coaches and develops people, hires well, and builds an inclusive team.
- Deep knowledge of data privacy and security, with experience designing and building infrastructure-level privacy solutions such as consent, classification, retention, and access controls.
- Experience managing data through its lifecycle across multiple lines of business and understanding its value, with a pragmatic approach that balances risk reduction and business goals.
- Experience setting multi-year roadmaps and building programs from the ground up, using gap discovery to prioritize and justify investment, and making timely decisions in ambiguous situations.
- Trusted partner to senior leaders in Engineering, Legal, Product, and Security, who can represent the team's work and connect technology to business goals.
- Experience using GenAI to scale privacy and data protection, and defining metrics reported to leadership.
