Every day we deliver safe and secure energy to homes, communities, and businesses. We are there when people need us the most. We connect people to the energy they need for the lives they live.

The pace of change in society and our industry is accelerating and our expertise and track record puts us in an unparalleled position to shape the sustainable future of our industry. To be successful we must anticipate the needs of our customers, reducing the cost of energy delivery today and pioneering the flexible energy systems of tomorrow. This requires us to deliver on our promises and always look for new opportunities to grow, both ourselves and our business.

Job Purpose

The Control & Integration (C&I) Department at National Grid supports the Substation, Transmission and Distribution departments with capital project engineering and design. We support multiple projects by engineering SCADA solutions and network designs for system devices to communicate with each other and communicate with our transmission and regional operation control centers. We provide the ability for our control centers to view and record metering data, device status and elements, device health, and allow for the remote control of substation equipment.

The C&I team specifies the required equipment that we use for the substation controls and provides network diagrams and configuration spec sheets for our technicians to configure the devices. Preliminary engineering specifications and device lists are provided for design. We provide detailed design review of engineered drawings that are developed by substation designers. We also supply network mapping and HMI configurations for digital substations.

The senior engineer position will provide some software configuration and troubleshooting support for technicians when required.

As a senior engineer, you will also begin to develop into leadership roles that involve working with engineering/design firms to provide additional resources to our group. You will oversee program work and support and mentor new associate engineers and interns on standards and work methods.

Key Accountabilities

Lead the engineering, design, integration, and support of substation control, metering, instrumentation, SCADA, and communication systems for transmission and distribution projects.
Develop and maintain digital substation architectures, communication topologies, network configurations, and data flow mappings to ensure reliable and secure system performance.
Define functional requirements and integration strategies for RTUs, IEDs, meters, annunciators, relays, communication processors, and other substation automation equipment.
Prepare and review engineering deliverables, including point lists, equipment specifications, control philosophies, network diagrams, reports, and associated technical documentation.
Provide technical leadership and oversight to multidisciplinary project teams, consultants, and external engineering partners to ensure compliance with company standards and project objectives.
Implement QA/QC processes and perform technical reviews to ensure the accuracy, consistency, and quality of engineering deliverables.
Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory, cybersecurity, and industry standards, including NERC-CIP requirements.Support operations and field personnel by troubleshooting control, metering, instrumentation, and communication system issues and participating in storm restoration activities as needed.
Develop internal organizational capability through training, mentoring, knowledge transfer, and onboarding support for engineers and external design resources.
