Original job description
MX is a financial technology company on a mission to empower the world to be financially strong. We build the data infrastructure and intelligent solutions that help leading banks, credit unions, and fintechs deliver smarter, more personalized financial experiences to millions of consumers every day.
Operating at the intersection of scale and agility, MX combines the momentum of a market-proven platform with the speed, innovation, and ownership of a growth-stage company. Here, thoughtful execution matters, innovation is expected, and team members have a direct seat at the table to influence products and outcomes.
Our culture is built on curiosity, accountability, and measurable impact. We give people the autonomy to question assumptions, build better systems, and shape how we scale. If you’re driven to tackle complex technical and business challenges alongside a collaborative team that builds with sane, high-trust execution, you’ll thrive at MX.
MX is seeking a distinguished Market Analyst to join our Finance organization as the senior-most individual contributor in market intelligence and strategic finance. Operating at the intersection of macroeconomic analysis, quantitative market research, and corporate strategy, this role serves as an executive thought leader and strategic advisor to C-suite leadership and the Board of Directors. In this role, you will define enterprise market research frameworks, quantify total addressable market (TAM) opportunities across financial technology sectors, and model complex unit economics for prospective growth vectors. You will act as an authoritative subject matter expert (SME), translating ambiguous market shifts into rigorous data-driven financial models, value propositions, and strategic memoranda that guide corporate strategy, resource allocation, and Go-To-Market (GTM) investments.
Job Duties
- Executive Thought Leadership & Strategic Partnership: Serve as the primary market intelligence advisor to the CFO, VP of Strategic Finance, and executive leadership, translating global financial trends and fintech disruptions into actionable strategic frameworks and board-level memoranda.
- Enterprise Market Research & TAM Modeling: Lead quantitative research initiatives across open finance, digital banking, data aggregation, and consumer financial behaviors; design sophisticated addressable market (TAM/SAM/SOM) models to evaluate strategic expansion opportunities.
- Unit Economics & Monetization Strategy: Partner with FP&A and Pricing & Monetization leaders to build financial feasibility models, value calculators, and unit economic frameworks to validate pricing strategies and measure product ROI for enterprise financial institution partners.
- Competitive Intelligence & Industry Benchmarking: Monitor global macroeconomic conditions, regulatory changes, and competitive metrics across financial technology platforms (including competitors such as Plaid) to identify growth opportunities and systemic market risks.
- Cross-Functional Synergy & GTM Alignment: Collaborate with Revenue Operations, Product Management, Corporate Strategy, and Marketing to ensure market intelligence directly informs company Objectives and Key Results (OKRs), product roadmaps, and M&A evaluations.
- Functional Mentorship & Analytical Governance: Establish data hygiene standards and research methodologies across the team; mentor and elevate junior and mid-level analysts in quantitative modeling, data visualization, and executive storytelling.
Basic Requirements
- Master’s degree in Finance, Econometrics, Quantitative Economics, Statistics, or an MBA with a quantitative concentration required.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in strategic market research, strategic finance, equity research, or corporate strategy within Financial Services, SaaS, or Fintech organizations.
- Executive Presence & Communication: Proven track record of interfacing with and advising C-suite executives, Board members, and industry partners, with exceptional capability in data-driven storytelling and strategic memoranda.
- Quantitative Mastery: Expert proficiency in advanced quantitative financial modeling, unit economic analysis, statistical forecasting, and market research methodologies.
- Industry Acumen: Deep expertise in open banking, data aggregation, SaaS monetization models, and financial institution operating structures.
Preferred Requirements
- Ph.D. in Economics, Finance, Statistics, or a related quantitative discipline preferred.
- Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation or equivalent professional certification.
- Hands-on proficiency with statistical software (Python, R, SQL), business intelligence tools (Tableau, Power BI, Domo), and financial databases (PitchBook, S&P Capital IQ, CB Insights).
