Original job description
Location: Cleveland, OH (onsite)
Pay: $80,000–$110,000
Type: Permanent · Full time
A marine services company with project-based operations is adding a senior accountant to support its Controller as it grows. This isn't a standard corporate seat: you'll work on job costing, fixed assets for vessels and heavy equipment, and union payroll, on a lean team where you own real work from the first week.
What you'll do
- Handle GL work and month-end and year-end close
- Reconcile accounts and analyze variances against budget and forecast
- Track job cost and WIP across active projects
- Keep fixed asset records for vessels and capital equipment
- Support AP and AR, and account for payroll, including labor distribution and union costs
- Prepare audit and regulatory documentation, reporting to the Controller and working closely with operations and senior leadership
What you bring
- Active CPA license (required)
- 5+ years of progressive accounting, ideally starting with 2–3 years in public accounting before moving to industry
- A stable work history with solid tenure at each employer
- Job costing or project accounting from construction, maritime, manufacturing or any business that tracks cost by job or contract
- Advanced Excel: lookups, conditional formulas, pivot tables
- Able to work fully in office in Cleveland; no remote or hybrid option
