Original job description
Location: Western Kentucky (onsite)
Type: Permanent · Full time
An automotive parts manufacturer is hiring an engineer to own its automated assembly cells from first power-up through full-rate production. You bring new automation online and make it run well, instead of patching equipment someone else designed.
What you'll do
- Build, prove out and tune the assembly process and automation sequence for new and existing lines
- Own the performance of gantries, robots, PLC/HMI controls, servo motion, sensors and vision inspection, including AI-assisted inspection
- Set and validate operating sequences, safety interlocks, error proofing, fault handling, manual recovery and restart modes
- Lead FAT, SAT, machine runoff, installation, debug, Run@Rate and handover to production
- Raise throughput, uptime, cycle time and MTBF while cutting MTTR
- Drive supplier punch lists to closure and feed accurate machine logic and production data into simulation and digital-twin work
What you bring
- Bachelor's in mechatronics, automation, electrical, mechanical, manufacturing or controls engineering
- 5+ years with automated automotive production or comparable industrial systems
- Hands-on work with PLCs, HMIs, industrial robots, servo motion, safety circuits, industrial networks and vision
- Commissioning, machine acceptance and production launch experience, including managing equipment suppliers
- Comfortable reading electrical, pneumatic, mechanical and controls drawings and leading a mixed troubleshooting team
- Calm, structured problem solving when the line is down
Nice to have: Change-control discipline and process simulation exposure.
