Original job description
Join the Future of Robotic Biomanufacturing!
Multiply Labs is a robotics company on a mission to solve a significant bottleneck in modern medicine: the manufacturing of life-saving advanced biologics, from gene and cell therapies to antibodies and more.
Today, these therapies are produced through manual, labor-intensive processes. Costs are extremely high - often $500K–$2M per patient - limiting access to only a small fraction of those who need them.
As product complexity increases and the cost of failure and scientific labor rises, the industry is shifting toward automation. Robotics and AI are making automated biologics manufacturing feasible, reliable, and economically scalable.
We believe the future of biomanufacturing is robotic - closed, automated, and scalable - ensuring critical therapeutics are accessible to every patient who needs them.
Why This Matters
We don’t just build robots - we’re building the essential infrastructure for next generation biologics. Our technology enables biopharma companies to scale production without redesigning their science, reducing regulatory hurdles and lowering costs so these treatments can reach more patients.
The Stack & The Scale
• The Mission: Build the world’s best robots to make life-saving therapies accessible to all.
• The Technology: Advanced robotic orchestration, high-precision automation, cloud-integrated hardware-software systems, dextrous manipulation, and imitation learning.
• The Location: Headquartered in San Francisco, CA.
• The Backing: Supported by premier investors, including Casdin Capital, Lux Capital, and Y Combinator.

About The Role
As a Robotics HW Engineer in the Multiply Labs team, you will apply your engineering expertise and hands-on technical skills to design complex automated machinery involved in the manufacturing of novel pharmaceutical products.
The primary focus of this position is to design HW and controls solutions to biological process automation problems that have not been previously solved for robotic interactions and operation. These types of problems commonly involve the mechanical design of space-efficient and cleanable structures, integrated thermal management, fluid transfer methods, precision alignment and retention, development of reusable robotic gripping features, development of novel robot EOATs, integration of commercial components into custom assemblies, process variable sensing, motion controls, and a sense of aesthetics and proportion to make the design look amazing.
You’ll be working in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment where you are encouraged to be creative and hands-on. Regular tasks include CAD work, prototype fabrication and assembly, testing the performance of your designs, evaluating commercial component options, and participation in team activities such as design reviews and brainstorming sessions. As your designs progress, you will be expected to provide technical support and documentation to assist with design transfer to manufacturing.
Qualifications
• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Experience designing and building medical equipment or industrial machinery
• Working knowledge of GD&T standards
• 2- 7+ years of experience in mechanical design engineering
Additional preferred qualifications:
• Experience with GMPc, FDA and/or EMA-regulated industries
• Proficiency with Onshape
• Hands-on experience with machine shop equipment
• Experience designing robot EOATs or robotic work cells
• Experience leading meetings, managing project tasks, and developing project timelines
Nice to Haves
• Proficiency with 3D CAD software, including modeling and creation of detailed drawings.
• Familiar with analysis of designs including deflections, tolerance stack-ups, load capacity, and material compatibility.
• Working knowledge of mechanical components, common engineering metals, plastics, fasteners, joining methods, part fabrication methods, and finishing operations.
