Original job description
Motif is building an agent-native platform for how buildings are designed and built. The Modeling team owns the modeling experience end to end - the UI, the data model, and the algorithms behind every building model in Motif. We connect an intuitive interface to a robust data model and fast algorithms, turning each user action into a reliable, high-performance modeling operation in 3D. And we build it as a platform: the features we ship have to work end to end today and also provide the capabilities to extend them.
We are seeking an experienced 3D application developer to help us build cutting-edge, high-performance web applications.
You will leverage your expert understanding of 3D modeling, full-stack development experience and passion to build robust software using modern languages and tech stacks such as Rust and WASM. You'll also bring a thoughtful approach to leveraging AI tools in your day-to-day work.
What you will do
- Design, develop, and maintain high-performance applications in Rust, drawing on the language's strengths in safety and performance.
- Build the core data model, geometry, and graph algorithms that power our modeling platform - and the extension points that let others build on them.
- Contribute across the stack as needed - Rust, WebAssembly, TypeScript.
- Partner with product managers and designers to clarify requirements and translate them into shipped features.
- Own the quality of what you ship, with unit and integration tests that keep a fast-moving codebase correct.
What you bring
- Understanding of the 3D modeling domain as applied to architecture, mechanical design, game development, or an adjacent field.
- 5+ years building complex, production-quality software - - and no ceiling above that.
- Production Rust experience, or depth in another systems language such as C++, with a strong understanding of memory management, concurrency, and performance optimization.
- Comfort with the fundamentals this work rests on - linear algebra, computational geometry, graph algorithms, numerical robustness.
- Experience building web applications.
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools in real production work.
- Comfort with startup pace - shipping real features against ambiguous requirements, and deciding what's worth building now versus later.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
It would be great if you had
- Understanding of design-by-composition and its applications in Rust.
- Experience with WebAssembly in a browser context - compiling Rust to WASM and integrating WASM modules into a JavaScript/TypeScript application.
- Experience in building and maintaining complex high-performance distributed systems
- Experience with TypeScript or JavaScript
