The Solution Architect (SA) at Modea is a high-impact, client-facing technical role that bridges engineering expertise with business development, serving as the primary technical advocate during the pre-sales process. This position combines deep technical knowledge of software development services and implementation methodologies with the relationship-building skills necessary to support prospective clients through complex technology decision-making. A day in the life involves a dynamic split between leading active clients through high-level technical consulting and driving growth as a "Sales Engineer" by translating business requirements into viable technical solutions. The SA acts as the internal "Product Owner" for the Digital Experience Platforms (DXPs) we consult around, ensuring our team stays plugged into product roadmaps, evolution, and emerging capabilities. This role requires exceptional presentation skills and the ability to build trust-based relationships with both technical and business stakeholders. This role is the primary developmental pathway for the Principal Solutions Architect position, providing the foundational technical and consulting experience required to advance into strategic leadership.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Technical Consulting (Billable): Lead high-priority client engagements as a primary technical consultant, providing strategic architectural oversight and guiding enterprise-grade implementation strategies to ensure project success.
- Business Development (Non-Billable): Serve as the primary technical point of contact for prospects, addressing technical questions and concerns throughout the sales cycle to influence purchasing decisions. This includes preparing and delivering tailored product demos for prospective clients as appropriate to showcase value and influence purchasing decisions.
- Joint Partnership Enablement: In collaboration with the Growth team, serve as the technical lead for strategic partnerships. You will own the technical onboarding, sandbox configuration, and solution validation for partners, ensuring they are equipped to represent and integrate our technology effectively while providing feedback to Product/Engineering teams on partner-driven technical requirements.
- DXP Product Ownership: Proactively stay plugged into the roadmaps, evolution, and product capabilities of the core DXPs we consult around, serving as the internal expert on platform updates.
- Sandbox Maintenance & Ownership: Take full ownership of the technical health, configuration, and access management of sandbox environments. This includes performing regular maintenance, ensuring data integrity for high-stakes demonstrations, and managing user permissions for internal stakeholders and prospective client trials.
- Technical Discovery: Conduct detailed technical discovery sessions with prospective clients to understand business needs, technical environments, and pain points.
- Solution Scoping: Assist in the preparation of comprehensive proposals and Statements of Work (SOWs), ensuring technical accuracy and alignment with Modea’s capabilities.
- Platform Advocacy: Arrange and facilitate demonstrations of relevant software and platform capabilities, coordinating with technology partners to showcase specialized expertise.
- Market Intelligence: Continuously monitor emerging technologies, industry trends, and competitive offerings within the relevant market landscapes to inform client discussions.
- Travel Requirements: This role involves a higher frequency of travel to support business development initiatives, attend industry conferences, and facilitate on-site client visits or training
- Performs other duties as assigned that are reasonably within scope of this position.
Critical Competencies:
- Technical Authority & Communication: A successful SA must be able to "talk shop" with engineers all day, possessing deep technical fluency to command respect in the code review room. Simultaneously, you must possess the clarity to translate these technical realities, such as latency, throughput, and system limitations, into language that Product Managers and stakeholders understand to drive effective decision-making.
- Architectural Design Patterns & Trade-off Analysis: You do not select tools simply because they are popular; you choose them because they fit the specific constraints of the project. You are an expert in evaluating trade-offs, such as "Consistency vs. Availability" or "Cost vs. Performance".
- Full-Stack Technical Depth: While you are not expected to code 8 hours a day, you must maintain enough "line-of-sight" into the code to ensure your designs are actually implementable. This includes deep knowledge of cloud infrastructure (AWS/Azure/GCP), CI/CD pipelines, security protocols (OAuth2, TLS), and data modeling. The Test: If a developer says "your design is impossible because of a library limitation," can you jump into the documentation or a Proof of Concept (PoC) and find a workaround?.
- Tactical Governance & Standards: You act as the guardian of the "How," ensuring the team doesn't take shortcuts that create massive technical debt. You set and enforce standards for API versioning, error handling, logging, and documentation.
- Risk Identification & Mitigation: A SA acts as an early-warning system; you need to see the "icebergs" before the ship hits them. This includes performing threat modeling and identifying single points of failure within a system. The Test: Spotting that a third-party API dependency has no fallback mechanism and designing a "Circuit Breaker" pattern to prevent a total system crash if that API goes down.
Minimum Requirements:
- Education & Experience: A minimum of 7 years of relevant software engineering experience, with demonstrated success in client-facing technical communication and solution design.
- Technical Proficiency: Complete knowledge of fundamental software development practices, implementation methodologies, and enterprise-level technology platforms.
- Legal: Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
