Original job description

About us

MIMO Advanced Manufacturing specializes in 3D metal printing for aerospace, rocketry, defense, and motorsport applications. We combine innovative additive processes with precision CNC machining to deliver high-performance components for commercial and defense aerospace clients. Our team thrives on innovation, collaboration, and excellence, driven by a shared mission of redefining what's possible in advanced manufacturing. Job summary We are looking for an experienced CNC machinist and programmer to lead our machining work. You will create solutions for high-precision components and assemblies through CAD/CAM programming, and prove out precision machining operations. You will set the standard for how we machine and inspect them, and guide the machinists around you. This role suits someone with deep aerospace machining experience who is comfortable owning a process from model to finished part and helping others get there too. What you will do

  • Design and program, set up, and run precision 5-axis mills and lathes for prototype and low volume aerospace and defense parts, including finishing 3D-printed metal components. • Develop the machining process for new parts: toolpaths, tooling, cutting parameters, workholding, and fixtures for complex geometries and difficult-to-machine materials. • Interpret complex aerospace blueprints, models, and technical drawings, and apply GD&T to hold tight tolerances.
  • Standardize and verify programs and post-processors so the team runs proven code. • Run quality checks and first-article inspection on machined features.
  • Lead root-cause analysis for machining defects such as chatter, tool wear, thermal distortion, and tolerance drift.
  • Create and maintain setup sheets, process documentation, and control plans so other machinists can follow your work.
  • Act as the technical lead for the machining team: review setups and programs, train and coach junior machinists, and help sequence work with engineering and production.
  • Prioritize and coordinate the machining queue with production and planning. • Team with engineers, quality, and production teams to bring subtractive machining into the full production workflow and keep processes stable.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot tooling, fixtures, and machines, and contribute to lean and continuous-improvement efforts.
  • Follow strict safety and aerospace quality standards in all operations. Required qualifications
  • 6+ years of CNC machining experience in aerospace, defense, or another high-tolerance industry, including significant precision prototype or low-volume work.
  • Hands-on 5-axis programming and setup using CAD/CAM software (for example Mastercam, GibbsCAM, NX, hyperMILL, or others).
  • Experience with CAM simulation and verification.
  • Strong command of GD&T and blueprint interpretation for aerospace parts. • Experience with precision measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, bore gauges) and CMM inspection.
  • Experience developing a machining process for a new part without an existing program or setup. • Experience leading, training, or mentoring other machinists, formally or informally. • Clear communication with engineers, quality staff, and production. Preferred qualifications
  • Experience with titanium, Inconel, and other difficult-to-machine alloys.
  • Tool presetting (standard, heat shrink), tool-life management, and fixturing systems. • Familiarity with AS9100 or other aerospace quality systems.

Requirements

  • Must be able to commute to Carson, CA 90745, or relocate there before starting. • Work location: in person, day shift.
  • Ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and wear required PPE, including a fit-tested respirator when handling metal powder.
  • This position requires access to technical data controlled under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Applicants must be U.S. persons (U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, or protected individuals as defined in 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) or be eligible for any required export authorization. MIMO is an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other legally protected characteristic.
