Original job description
About us
MIMO Advanced Manufacturing specializes in 3D metal printing for aerospace, rocketry, defense, and motorsport applications. We combine innovative additive processes with precision CNC machining to deliver high-performance components for commercial and defense aerospace clients. Our team thrives on innovation, collaboration, and excellence, driven by a shared mission of redefining what's possible in advanced manufacturing. Job summary We are looking for an application engineer to turn customer parts into successful metal builds. You will assess feasibility, prepare builds (orientation, supports, nesting, parameters), estimate build time and cost for quotes, and support the production floor and inspection. You are the technical voice to customers on design for additive manufacturing. What you will do
- Assess feasibility of customer parts and give design-for-additive (DfAM) feedback.
- Prepare builds: orientation, support strategy, nesting, parameters, and slicing, with a low programming-error rate.
- Estimate build time and cost for quotes, and compare quoted against actual time to improve estimates.
- Manage your feasibility and quote work to meet turnaround commitments.
- Give technical support to the production floor and inspection, and help resolve build failures.
- Contribute to build-prep standards that developers and technicians follow.
How success is measured
- First-time build success rate.
- Programming-related NCRs.
- Quoted against actual build time.
- Rework caused by build prep.
Required qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical, aerospace, or manufacturing engineering, or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of metal AM build-prep experience.
- Experience with build-prep software (for example Materialise Magics or the machine vendor's build processor).
- Working knowledge of GD&T and CAD.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with SLM or NXG machines.
- Experience quoting AM parts.
- AS9100 experience.
Requirements
- Must be able to commute to Carson, CA 90745, or relocate there before starting.
- Work location: in person, day shift.
- This position requires access to technical data controlled under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Applicants must be U.S. persons (U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, or protected individuals as defined in 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) or be eligible for any required export authorization.
MIMO is an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other legally protected characteristic.
