Custodian

Job Description

Position: Custodian Reports to/Evaluated by: Director of Buildings and Grounds Position Summary The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly environment within the school building and grounds. This includes performing daily cleaning tasks, light maintenance, and ensuring facilities are safe and presentable for students, staff, and visitors. Primary Responsibilities

• Performs a variety of cleaning and maintenance tasks including sweeping, mopping, dusting, washing windows and furniture, waxing and buffing floors, and painting as needed. Ensures that all restroom fixtures and facilities are clean, sanitized, and fully operational.
• Maintains school grounds by mowing, trimming, seeding, removing debris, and painting outdoor surfaces as required.
• Replaces light bulbs, performs minor maintenance, and assists with small repairs under the direction of the Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds or Head Building Custodian.
• Removes snow and ice from sidewalks and entryways; conducts daily building and grounds inspections to ensure safety. Reports any unsafe conditions, repair needs, or hazards to the Building Principal immediately.
• Assists with the school lunch program and related setup or cleanup duties as directed by the Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds.
• Reports maintenance or supply needs, plumbing or electrical issues, and other concerns to the Head Building Custodian or Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds.
• Maintains proper care and use of custodial equipment, tools, and cleaning products in accordance with safety standards.
• Performs other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and climb stairs and ladders for extended periods.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 70 pounds frequently, and heavier loads occasionally with assistance.
• Ability to operate custodial and maintenance equipment such as buffers, scrubbers, lawnmowers, and snow removal tools.
• Ability to work in various environments including indoor, outdoor, hot, cold, or inclement weather conditions.
• Ability to reach overhead, kneel, and perform repetitive cleaning motions safely and efficiently.
