Original job description

Overview

At Microsoft Quantum, we aim to empower science and scientists to solve the world’s biggest problems by realizing advanced computing platforms at the intersection of high-performance computing, artificial intelligence, and quantum information technology. Microsoft Quantum will change the world of computing and help solve some of humankind’s currently unsolvable problems. For more information about our team, visit https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/quantum.

Microsoft Quantum is building the world’s first scalable quantum computing system, with a full‑stack approach spanning materials, devices, systems, and cloud services. Our hardware strategy is centered on topological qubits, which require sophisticated nanofabrication of hybrid semiconductor–superconductor devices with stringent control of interfaces, materials quality, and process integration.

We are seeking a Quantum Measurement Engineer to play a leading role in the development of our materials and system components. You will work closely with experts in materials science, nanofabrication, and device design in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary R&D environment.

Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.

Responsibilities

Design and execute experiments to characterize the RF and transport properties of semiconductors, dielectrics, metals, and/or superconductors as part of qubit development.
Demonstrate expertise with and perform measurement techniques to advance quantum practices and devices, including qubit bring-up and characterization.
Identify opportunities to streamline and automate quantum measurements, including applying AI methods where appropriate
Seek, understand, and utilize technical input across technical fields including materials science, microwave engineering, and quantum device physics to drive improvements in device performance.
