Recruitment Notes

The Elevator Inspector performs specialized technical, regulatory, and field inspection work in support of Miami-Dade County’s elevator safety and compliance program. The position is responsible for conducting inspections and witnessing required tests of elevators, escalators, moving walks, lifts, and other regulated conveyances to determine compliance with applicable Florida Statutes, Florida Administrative Code requirements, adopted safety codes, County ordinances, and departmental procedures. The Elevator Inspector conducts routine, annual, periodic, acceptance, alteration, modernization, complaint, accident, and other required inspections of regulated elevator equipment. Responsibilities include identifying unsafe conditions and code violations; documenting inspection findings; preparing accurate and timely inspection reports; reviewing applicable permits and supporting documentation; verifying corrective actions; and performing follow-up inspections as necessary to determine compliance. The Inspector works directly with elevator contractors, mechanics, property owners, building representatives, residents, project managers, design professionals, and other internal and external stakeholders. The position provides technical and regulatory guidance, responds to questions regarding inspection requirements and code compliance, and communicates inspection findings and required corrective actions in a clear and professional manner. The position is also responsible for maintaining accurate inspection and regulatory records; responding to complaints and reported safety concerns; assisting with accident and incident investigations; coordinating inspection activities with contractors and property representatives; and supporting enforcement actions when violations or unsafe conditions are identified. The Elevator Inspector must exercise sound independent judgment in evaluating elevator equipment and determining compliance with applicable safety requirements.
