Original job description

SUMMARY Megawatt Construction, Inc. is a rapidly growing data center construction company delivering complex, mission-critical construction projects across the United States. We build the infrastructure that powers the digital future. As demand for data center infrastructure continues to accelerate, Megawatt Construction is expanding its capabilities, strengthening its project management teams, and building the operational foundation to deliver projects at an increasingly national scale. The Senior Project Manager will lead the planning, execution, and successful delivery of large-scale data center construction projects, including data hall fit-outs. This individual will be responsible for overall project performance, including schedule, budget, quality, safety, subcontractor coordination, and client satisfaction. The ideal candidate is an experienced construction leader who can manage complex projects, develop high-performing teams, proactively resolve challenges, and drive consistent execution from preconstruction through commissioning and final turnover.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead all phases of data center construction projects, from preconstruction, planning, and procurement through construction, commissioning, and final turnover.
  • Establish project objectives, execution plans, schedules, budgets, and performance expectations to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Develop, manage, and monitor project budgets, cost forecasts, cash flow projections, and financial reports to maintain cost control and project profitability.
  • Track project costs, labor productivity, subcontractor commitments, and expenditures; identify variances and implement corrective actions.
  • Develop and manage detailed project schedules, monitor critical path activities and milestones, and implement recovery plans when necessary.
  • Coordinate labor, equipment, materials, procurement, and subcontractor resources to maintain productivity and meet project deadlines.
  • Lead subcontractor procurement, scope reviews, bid evaluations, contract negotiations, and subcontract administration in coordination with internal teams.
  • Hold subcontractors accountable for contractual obligations, schedule commitments, workmanship, safety, quality, and overall performance.
  • Maintain close coordination with superintendents, project managers, engineers, subcontractors, and other field personnel to ensure effective execution and alignment between project plans and field operations.
  • Oversee coordination among architectural, structural, civil, and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) trades to resolve design conflicts, constructability issues, and field challenges.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure project activities comply with company policies, applicable regulations, and site-specific safety requirements.
  • Oversee quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) processes to ensure work complies with approved drawings, specifications, applicable codes, and client requirements.
  • Coordinate construction activities involving critical data center infrastructure, including electrical distribution, backup power systems, cooling and HVAC systems, fire protection, and related building systems.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams, commissioning agents, trade partners, and clients to support system integration, testing, commissioning, and operational readiness.
  • Manage project changes, requests for information (RFIs), submittals, change orders, claims, and potential disputes, ensuring appropriate documentation, approvals, and cost and schedule adjustments.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate risks related to cost, schedule, design, procurement, labor, subcontractor performance, and construction execution.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, owners, design teams, consultants, and other key stakeholders, maintaining strong relationships through proactive communication and consistent execution.
  • Lead project meetings, communicate progress and challenges, manage client expectations, and resolve issues that could affect project performance or satisfaction.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop project team members, establish clear responsibilities and performance expectations, and promote accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Prepare and present regular project status reports covering financial performance, schedule progress, safety, quality, risks, and key milestones to executive leadership and clients.
  • Maintain accurate project records, including budgets, schedules, contracts, meeting minutes, change documentation, and other required project files.
  • Oversee project closeout, ensuring completion of punch-list items, as-built drawings, warranties, operation and maintenance manuals, and final turnover documentation.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant construction experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of 10 years of construction project management experience, preferably in data center, mission-critical, or large-scale commercial construction.
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex construction projects, managing project teams, coordinating subcontractors, and overseeing multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of data center construction, data hall fit-outs, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems, critical power infrastructure, cooling systems, and commissioning requirements.
  • Proven ability to manage project budgets, cost forecasting, cash flow, financial reporting, change management, and project profitability.
  • Strong knowledge of construction scheduling, critical path management, procurement planning, resource allocation, and schedule recovery strategies.
  • Experience with subcontractor procurement, contract administration, scope reviews, negotiations, change orders, claims, and dispute resolution.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage project risks, resolve technical and operational challenges, and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong leadership and team development skills, with the ability to establish expectations, promote accountability, and drive project performance.

  • Knowledge of construction safety requirements, quality control procedures, applicable building codes, and project documentation standards.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred; additional relevant construction management or safety certifications are advantageous.
  • Proven track record of delivering projects successfully with respect to budget, schedule, safety, quality, and client expectations.
  • Demonstrates integrity, accountability, professionalism, sound judgment, and a solutions-oriented approach to problem-solving.
