Original job description
SUMMARY Megawatt Construction, Inc. is a rapidly growing data center construction company delivering complex, mission-critical construction projects across the United States. We build the infrastructure that powers the digital future. As demand for data center infrastructure continues to accelerate, Megawatt Construction is expanding its capabilities and building the project management teams needed to deliver high-quality projects at an increasingly national scale. The Project Manager will oversee the successful execution of data center construction projects, including tenant colocation data hall fit-outs, white-space buildouts, and infrastructure upgrades within active data center environments. This role is responsible for coordinating project activities from preconstruction through final turnover, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contractual requirements and client expectations. Working closely with superintendents, engineers, subcontractors, vendors, and clients, the Project Manager will drive day-to-day project performance, resolve challenges, manage costs and schedules, and maintain high standards of quality and execution across complex, mission-critical facilities. This is an opportunity for a motivated construction professional to take ownership of challenging projects, build strong industry relationships, and contribute directly to Megawatt Construction's continued growth.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage all phases of project execution, from preconstruction planning and procurement through construction, commissioning, and final turnover, ensuring alignment with project objectives, contractual requirements, specifications, and client expectations.
- Develop, maintain, and monitor project budgets, cost forecasts, cash flow projections, and financial reports to maintain cost control and support project profitability.
- Track project commitments, expenditures, labor costs, subcontractor costs, and potential cost overruns; identify variances and implement corrective actions.
- Develop and maintain project schedules in coordination with superintendents, subcontractors, vendors, and project stakeholders. Monitor critical milestones, identify potential delays, and implement recovery strategies as needed.
- Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors to ensure scopes of work, procurement, materials, labor, and installation activities are properly planned, scheduled, and executed.
- Review subcontractor scopes, identify scope gaps and coordination conflicts, and maintain accountability for contractual obligations, workmanship, schedule commitments, and quality expectations.
- Coordinate mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), controls, fire protection, and other building system scopes to support proper installation sequencing, system integration, and overall project execution.
- Work closely with superintendents and field teams to align project plans with field activities, resolve construction challenges, address constructability issues, and maintain productivity.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, design teams, consultants, subcontractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders. Lead project meetings, communicate progress, address concerns, and maintain strong working relationships.
- Review and administer contracts, scopes of work, purchase orders, subcontractor agreements, requests for information (RFIs), submittals, and change orders. Evaluate changes and manage associated cost and schedule impacts.
- Identify project risks, design conflicts, procurement constraints, schedule exposures, and unforeseen conditions; develop practical solutions and communicate issues requiring timely attention.
- Partner with field leadership, safety personnel, and quality teams to ensure construction activities comply with applicable safety requirements, project specifications, approved drawings, quality standards, and building codes.
- Coordinate construction activities within active data center environments, accounting for site access requirements, operational constraints, safety protocols, work sequencing, and potential impacts to existing facility operations.
- Monitor installation quality, inspections, testing requirements, and deficiency resolution to ensure completed work meets project specifications and client expectations.
- Coordinate with commissioning teams, subcontractors, vendors, and clients to support equipment startup, system testing, functional performance verification, commissioning activities, and operational readiness.
- Manage project documentation, including schedules, budgets, meeting minutes, RFIs, submittals, change orders, progress reports, cost forecasts, and other project records, ensuring accuracy and timely completion.
- Prepare regular project status updates for clients and internal leadership, communicating progress, financial performance, schedule risks, outstanding issues, and required corrective actions.
- Coordinate punch-list completion, deficiency resolution, as-built drawings, operation and maintenance manuals, warranties, and other required closeout documentation to support successful project turnover.
- Maintain accountability for assigned project deliverables, proactively resolve issues, and collaborate with internal teams to improve execution, productivity, and overall project performance.
