About the Opportunity
Dupont Surgery Center is seeking two dependable, team-oriented Surgical Technologists / Scrub Techs to join our fast-paced, high-volume surgical facility.
We operate in a collaborative, "all-hands-on-deck" environment with 5 operating rooms and a close-knit staff of under 50 team members. This role is ideal for a grounded professional who thrives in a supportive team setting, values strong OR etiquette, and is eager to contribute across all aspects of surgical prep and support.
Key Responsibilities
•
Pre-Operation & Patient Prep:
• Prepare operating rooms by assembling and setting up surgical instruments, equipment, sterile drapes, and solutions.
• Adjust and test sterile and non-sterile equipment to ensure proper function prior to procedures.
• Prepare patient skin/incision sites (washing, shaving, disinfecting) and assist in safely transporting and positioning patients on the operating table.
• Assist the surgical team with gowning and gloving in a sterile environment.
•
Intra-Operative Support:
• Pass instruments, sponges, needles, and sterile supplies smoothly to surgeons and surgical assistants during procedures (including high-volume ophthalmic/cataract cases).
• Hold retractors, cut sutures, and assist in maintaining accurate counts of instruments, sponges, and supplies.
• Maintain strict adherence to aseptic technique, surgery center regulations, and patient safety protocols.
• Operate sterilizers, surgical lights, suction devices, and diagnostic equipment as needed.
•
Post-Operation & Room Turnover:
• Assist with patient transfer to the recovery room post-surgery.
• Perform sterile processing (SPD duties), clean, disinfect, and restock operating rooms, and assist with general turnover and trash removal between cases.
• Properly care for, package, and handle tissue specimens for laboratory analysis.
Qualifications & Requirements
• Education & Training: Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist program preferred (Scrub Tech training required).
• Certifications: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) required.
• Clinical Experience: 0–4 years of clinical experience as a Scrub Tech. Ability to assist with ophthalmic/eye procedures is required.
•
Core Skills:
• Understanding of patient care across various lifespan stages (specifically geriatric care and IV sedation etiquette).
• Knowledge of the standard nursing process and operating room protocols.
What Makes an Ideal Candidate?
• Team Player Attitude: Reliable, humble, and ready to jump in wherever needed without an ego ("all-hands-on-deck" mindset).
• Dependability: Punctual with excellent attendance - our team relies heavily on every member.
• Strong OR Etiquette: Ability to maintain a quiet, calm, and reassuring demeanor around patients under light sedation.
• Adaptable: Comfortable working in close confines within a fast-paced ambulatory surgery setting.
Preferred Qualifications
• Prior experience in Ophthalmology / Cataract surgery centers.
• Local to the Louisville, KY area.
Hiring Process
• Peer Interview: Meet with members of the clinical team you'll be working alongside.
• Shadow Day / Facility Tour: Spend time on-site to experience the pace, see the facility, and ensure a strong mutual fit.
