Help Us Build What's Next at Mathnasium Applicants must be located in the Los Angeles metropolitan area. At Mathnasium, we believe every child has the ability to succeed in math - and we're passionate about helping them get there. Through our personalized approach to math learning, we help children build confidence, develop critical thinking skills, and discover what they're capable of. Behind that mission is a dedicated corporate team working to support our franchise network, strengthen our technology, and help Mathnasium continue to grow. We're looking for a Software Developer who wants to be part of that work. If you enjoy solving problems, building useful solutions, exploring new technologies, and seeing your work make a real impact, this could be a great next step in your career. The Opportunity As a Software Developer at Mathnasium, you'll join a collaborative, hands-on engineering team where your contributions matter. You'll work on applications and services that support our business, deliver meaningful improvements to our users, and help shape how our technology evolves. Our team works across a mature C# and ASP.NET Framework application and newer TypeScript services. We're looking for someone with a solid foundation in software development who is ready to take the next step: owning meaningful work, growing their technical capabilities, and becoming more independent over time. You'll have support from an experienced team, opportunities to contribute ideas, and room to expand your responsibilities as your skills develop. You don't need to know everything on day one. If you're strong in .NET and excited to learn more about AWS serverless development, automation, and AI-powered tools, we're ready to help you grow. What You'll Work On
- Build Features That Matter: Develop and enhance applications that support Mathnasium's business operations and customer needs using C#, ASP.NET MVC, Web API, and serverless TypeScript services.
- Help Modernize Our Technology: Improve existing applications, reduce technical debt, and move functionality into modern services where it makes sense.
- Make Releases Faster and Smarter: Help evolve our software delivery process from monthly releases to two-week releases and, ultimately, continuous deployment using GitHub Actions and related tools.
- Explore Cloud Development: Build and support services using AWS Lambda, API Gateway, and other cloud technologies as you develop your serverless skills.
- Automate and Improve Quality: Write automated tests, expand test coverage, and identify opportunities to eliminate repetitive work through better tooling and automation.
- Work With Data: Build and maintain functionality that interacts with Microsoft SQL Server, Aurora SQL, and DynamoDB.
- Explore What's Next in AI: Help evaluate emerging AI tools and experiment with AI-powered features and agentic workflows that could improve how we build software and support our business.
- Keep Our Applications Running Well: Help troubleshoot production issues, improve monitoring and alerting, and address root causes to keep our systems reliable.
- Learn and Collaborate: Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and documentation while sharing ideas and learning from teammates.
What We're Looking For We're looking for a developer who brings technical fundamentals, curiosity, and a willingness to take ownership. You should be comfortable contributing independently while knowing when to ask questions, collaborate, and learn from others. Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of professional software development experience.
- Strong experience with C#, ASP.NET MVC or Web API, and object-oriented programming principles.
- Experience with TypeScript or modern JavaScript, including Node.js, along with HTML and CSS.
- Solid SQL skills and experience working with Microsoft SQL Server.
- Hands-on experience with AWS or another cloud platform.
- Experience working in an Agile development environment with Git/GitHub, code reviews, and automated testing.
- Strong problem-solving skills, clear communication, and the ability to manage assigned work independently.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Skills We'd Love to See You don't need to check every box. We're interested in your foundation, your curiosity, and your ability to learn.
- Experience with AWS serverless technologies, including Lambda, API Gateway, and DynamoDB.
- Familiarity with infrastructure as code using Terraform and/or the Serverless Framework.
- Experience with Aurora SQL.
- Exposure to Amazon S3, Redis, or Valkey.
- Experience designing REST APIs with Express, NestJS, or similar frameworks.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, particularly GitHub Actions, as well as Docker and monitoring tools such as Amazon CloudWatch.
- Experience with LLM APIs, agent frameworks, or AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot or Claude.
- Exposure to migrating .NET Framework applications to modern .NET or breaking functionality into independent services.
How You'll Grow Here At Mathnasium, we want you to build more than features - we want you to build your skills and confidence as a developer. You'll begin with clearly scoped projects, collaboration, and support from the team. As you become familiar with our systems and development practices, you'll have opportunities to take on more complex challenges, contribute to technical decisions, and own larger pieces of work. You'll also have room to explore new tools and technologies. Our approach to AI-assisted development and agentic workflows is still evolving, and you'll have an opportunity to help evaluate tools, share ideas, and influence how we incorporate these capabilities into our engineering practices. We're looking for someone who is eager to keep learning, comfortable with change, and excited to grow into greater technical ownership over time. Our Technology Environment Our engineering team works across established applications and evolving cloud-based services, including:
- Application Development: C#, ASP.NET Framework, MVC, Web API, Node.js, and TypeScript
- Cloud & Serverless: AWS Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, Aurora SQL, and Amazon S3
- Data: Microsoft SQL Server and cloud-based databases
- Development & Delivery: GitHub, GitHub Actions, automated testing, Terraform, and the Serverless Framework
- Emerging Technology: AI coding assistants, LLM integrations, and agentic workflows
You won't be expected to master every technology before joining us. We value a strong technical foundation, adaptability, and the ability to learn new tools as our environment evolves. Where You'll Work This is a hybrid position based at Mathnasium's corporate headquarters in the Los Angeles metropolitan area.
- Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday: Work onsite with the team at our headquarters.
- Tuesday and Friday: Work from home.
