Title and Summary
Site Reliability Engineer I
Overview
The Service Operations Technology (SOT) BizOps team is seeking a Site Reliability Engineer I to support and continuously improve enterprise infrastructure, configuration management, discovery, asset and inventory, automation, and operational technology platforms. This role provides an opportunity to develop expertise at the intersection of software engineering and production operations, with exposure to reliability, observability, automation, operational readiness, incident management, and continuous improvement. The successful candidate will support production services while developing engineering skills that help reduce operational toil, improve service visibility, automate repetitive activities, and improve platform reliability. Working with software engineering, infrastructure, product, cybersecurity, and operations teams, this position provides broad exposure to the technologies and engineering practices used to operate business-critical enterprise services.
Role Business Operations supports operational excellence and production readiness for the platforms we support. The team partners with software engineering and technology teams throughout the service lifecycle to help maintain reliable, observable, secure, scalable, and operationally supportable services. As a Site Reliability Engineer I, you will develop practical experience operating enterprise technology platforms while applying SRE and DevOps principles to production support. You will perform platform maintenance, monitoring, troubleshooting, deployment support, and operational validation while contributing to automation and engineering improvements. As your technical knowledge develops, you will have opportunities to contribute to increasingly complex automation, observability, reliability, and platform-engineering activities with guidance from experienced engineers. The SRE framework identifies observability, programming and scripting, systems and network administration, cloud computing, reliability and scalability, DevOps practices, troubleshooting, capacity/performance, IT Service Management, and proactive monitoring as core skills within the discipline. At SP9, the framework classifies these skills at the Foundational level.
Responsibilities
- Support the day-to-day operation and maintenance of enterprise technology platforms and supporting infrastructure.
- Perform routine system and application maintenance using established procedures and engineering standards.
- Support monitoring of service health, availability, performance, capacity, and operational events.
- Troubleshoot and resolve basic-to-moderate issues across application, infrastructure, network, operating-system, and integration layers.
- Escalate complex technical issues while assisting experienced engineers with investigation and resolution.
- Support production incidents and participate in root cause analysis and corrective-action activities.
- Perform routine Linux/Unix system administration and support related enterprise infrastructure.
- Participate in operating system and application upgrades, patching, vulnerability remediation, releases, deployments, and production changes.
- Support production-readiness reviews and operational-validation activities for new or changed services.
- Identify opportunities for automation and contribute to scripts and tools that reduce repetitive operational activities and toil, with guidance from experienced engineers.
- Contribute to monitoring, alerting, health-check automation, dashboards, and observability improvements using enterprise technologies such as Splunk and Dynatrace. SOT activities document both technologies in operational monitoring work.
- Work with REST APIs and system integrations in support of automated operational workflows.
- Develop practical experience with source control, CI/CD, release pipelines, deployment automation, and configuration-management technologies.
- Assist with capacity, performance, reliability, and system-health analysis.
- Follow incident, problem, change, configuration-management, security, and operational risk-management practices.
- Maintain technical documentation, operating procedures, troubleshooting guides, and knowledge articles.
- Participate in technical reviews and quality checks that support service stability and operational readiness.
- Collaborate with product, software engineering, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and operations teams.
- Participate in knowledge-sharing activities and continuously develop technical expertise in SRE, automation, observability, cloud, and platform engineering.
Position Qualifications Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Information Technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- Foundational knowledge of Linux/Unix systems and system-administration concepts.
- Foundational programming or scripting experience using Python, PowerShell, Bash, Java, Go, or similar technologies.
- Understanding of networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/HTTPS, SSH, and basic network troubleshooting.
- Understanding of software engineering and automation concepts.
