Original job description
With eleven offices across the United States, 500+ professionals and 350+ business professionals, Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP (www.manatt.com), is a multidisciplinary, integrated national professional services firm known for quality and an extraordinary commitment to clients. The Firm’s groundbreaking approach - bringing together legal services, advocacy and business strategy - differentiates Manatt from its competitors and positions the Firm to provide a distinct and compelling value proposition.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a SharePoint Developer to build and maintain custom Microsoft 365 solutions, including SPFx web parts, Power Platform apps and flows, and API-based integrations that move data between SharePoint and downstream reporting systems. This is a hands-on development role responsible for production code, CI/CD deployments, and translating business requirements into working software.
The role is part of a small development team with broad scope across front-end components, ETL pipelines, migrations, business partnership, and user experience. The successful candidate will be comfortable shifting among varied technical assignments while maintaining governance, security, accessibility, and supportability standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Build, test, and deploy SharePoint Framework web parts, extensions, and Adaptive Card Extensions using TypeScript, React, and Fluent UI.
- Package and release solutions through Azure DevOps pipelines with automated linting, testing, and security scanning.
- Maintain and refactor the existing SPFx codebase; retire deprecated patterns, unsupported PnP versions, and legacy Fluent UI.
- Optimize bundle size, rendering performance, and load behavior on modern SharePoint pages.
- Develop and maintain canvas and model-driven Power Apps, Power Automate cloud flows, and Dataverse tables.
- Implement Power Platform application lifecycle management, including solution packaging, managed and unmanaged solution discipline, and environment promotion from development through production via pipelines.
- Build custom connectors when out-of-the-box connectors are insufficient.
- Instrument flows with error handling, retry logic, and alerting.
- Develop integrations using Microsoft Graph, SharePoint REST/CSOM, and third-party line-of-business APIs.
- Build scheduled and event-driven ETL processes using Azure Functions, Logic Apps, and Python or PowerShell to move SharePoint and Microsoft 365 data into reporting stores.
- Produce datasets and semantic models consumed by Power BI, and support report authors with reliable, documented sources.
- Implement Entra ID app registrations, certificate-based authentication, managed identities, and least-privilege Microsoft Graph permission scoping.
- Work directly with site owners across practice groups and administrative departments to gather requirements, propose solutions, and set realistic delivery expectations.
- Advise site owners on information architecture, metadata, content types, navigation, permissions, and content lifecycle within established governance standards.
- Provide training and documentation so business owners can self-manage day-to-day content without developer involvement.
- Challenge requests that conflict with governance, security, or maintainability standards and clearly explain the rationale.
- Execute migration waves from on-premises SharePoint, file shares, and legacy document management platforms into SharePoint Online and OneDrive.
- Run pre-migration assessments, remediate blockers such as path length, unsupported characters, orphaned permissions, and checked-out files, and validate post-migration integrity.
- Rebuild classic customizations as supported modern equivalents.
- Use commercial migration tools, including ShareGate, AvePoint, Metalogix, and SPMT, alongside scripted PowerShell and PnP automation.
- Produce wireframes and interactive prototypes before writing production code.
- Design interfaces that meet WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility standards and function on mobile devices.
- Maintain a consistent design system and component library across custom solutions, applying firm branding accurately.
- Validate designs with users before implementation.
Qualifications
- Candidate should have 4+ years of previous experience developing on SharePoint Online and Microsoft 365.
- 3+ years of production SharePoint Framework development experience using TypeScript and React; demonstrable code is required.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field preferred.
- Working proficiency with Power Apps, Power Automate, and Dataverse, including solution-based application lifecycle management.
- Practical experience with Microsoft Graph API and SharePoint REST APIs, including OAuth 2.0 and Entra ID authentication flows.
- PowerShell scripting experience using the PnP.PowerShell module.
- Git-based source control and CI/CD pipeline experience using Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions.
- At least one completed migration to SharePoint Online at organizational scale.
- Ability to communicate technical constraints to non-technical stakeholders clearly and professionally.
- Azure development experience with Functions, Logic Apps, Key Vault, Application Insights, and Storage preferred.
- Python experience for data processing and automation preferred.
- Power BI data modeling and DAX experience preferred.
- Experience building or extending Microsoft 365 Copilot declarative agents, or integrating Azure OpenAI or Azure AI Foundry services into business applications, preferred.
- SharePoint Premium (Syntex) content processing experience preferred.
- Viva Connections dashboard and Adaptive Card Extension experience preferred.
- Experience in a professional services, legal, or other regulated environment with strict confidentiality and ethical-wall requirements preferred.
- Relevant certifications such as PL-400, PL-600, AZ-204, or MS-102 preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Must have exceptional organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
- Demonstrated reliability and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a hybrid (remote and in-office) team environment. The Firm operates on a hybrid work schedule requiring in-office presence Tuesday through Thursday, with optional remote work permitted on Mondays and Fridays. All employees must remain available for onsite work up to five days per week as business needs dictate. This schedule is subject to change; flexibility is required.
The base annual pay range for this role is between $110,000 - $145,000. The base pay to be offered will vary and depend on skills and qualifications, experience, location and will also take into account internal equity. A full range of medical, financial and/or other benefits dependent on the position will also be offered. EEO/AA EMPLOYER/Veterans/Disabled
