Original job description
Product Data Manager Northern New Jersey – On-site $90K – $130K (based on experience)
Overview
This role is for someone who sees a massive, messy catalog and gets excited. Our client is an established distributor with hundreds of thousands of SKUs sourced from hundreds of vendors and sold across multiple online and B2B sales channels. Vendors constantly push new files, discontinue items, and change specs, and every change has to land cleanly in the ERP and on every channel the products are sold through. You will own the product data: descriptions, images, categories, product groups and variants, and the large exports that feed every platform. When purchasing flags a bad listing or the warehouse scans a barcode that doesn’t match, it comes to you, and you find the root cause, fix it, and make sure it doesn’t happen again. This is a new role carved out of a job that outgrew one person, so you’ll build the processes, not inherit them. You need to be highly comfortable in Excel, extremely detail-oriented, and a true team player who works side by side with the pricing and data lead and can cover for them when needed.
Responsibilities
- Own product content across all channels: descriptions, specs, images, categories, and attributes
- Build and maintain product groups and variants (size, color, style) across a very large catalog
- Manage and update listings across the company website, third-party platforms, and catalogs
- Run large data exports and imports; clean, review, and validate data before it goes live
- Serve as the central point for data issues reported by purchasing, the warehouse, and sales; investigate, resolve, and document every one
- Find root causes of recurring errors and sync problems, then fix the process behind them
- Map and import new vendor catalogs into the system
- Partner closely with the pricing and vendor data lead; split ownership clearly and cross-cover when either of you is tied up on a project
- Work with purchasing, sales, and operations to support their data needs
- Build repeatable workflows and quality controls from scratch, since this is a new role
- Train and coordinate offshore support resources as the function scales, with a path to formal team leadership
Qualifications
Must-haves
- Highly comfortable in Excel, including XLOOKUP, lookups, pivot tables, and data-cleaning formulas
- Experience working with large datasets and bulk updates
- Extremely detail-oriented; errors at this scale multiply fast
- Strong problem-solver who enjoys untangling complicated data issues
- Team player, easy to communicate with, and comfortable sharing knowledge and workload
- Fast learner who actively picks up new tools and systems
Strong plus
- Cloud ERP experience (Acumatica a major advantage)
- SQL (queries, joins, filtering) and Power Query
- E-commerce or marketplace catalog management, with an understanding of category structure and how clean product data should look
- Distribution, wholesale, or high-SKU industry background
