Maintenance Technician

Macon R-1 School District is accepting applications for a Maintenance Technician.

The Maintenance Technician helps maintain and repair district buildings, grounds, and equipment to ensure a safe, functional, and attractive learning environment for students, staff, and the community.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform routine and preventive maintenance on HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems

• Complete work orders for building repairs, furniture/equipment assembly, and minor renovations

• Assist with grounds maintenance, snow removal, and seasonal tasks

• Inspect facilities to identify safety hazards and maintenance needs; report findings promptly

• Operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, and district vehicles safely

• Support custodial and operations staff with set-ups for school events and emergencies

• Follow all OSHA, EPA, fire safety, and district safety procedures

• Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used

• Respond to after-hours emergencies as assigned

• Perform other duties as directed by the supervisor

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required

• Prior experience in building, mechanical, or facilities maintenance preferred; trade certification a plus

• Knowledge of basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems helpful

• Ability to read and follow work orders, schematics, and safety instructions

• Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, work in varied weather conditions, and stand/walk for extended periods

• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

• Team-oriented attitude, dependable, and willing to learn new skills

This position is a 12 month/260 day position.
