Original job description
Some of the most important patent cases in tech are won or lost on technical evidence. At Lumenci, our delivery team produces it, and we're looking for a VP of Delivery to lead the way. You'll run a growing team of technical consultants across the US and India, delivering source code review, reverse engineering, Evidence of Use (EoU) claim charts, and technical due diligence on high-stakes patent litigation, licensing, and IP monetization matters. Most of your time will go to building the team, running the business, and serving as the senior partner clients and counsel rely on. The rest goes to the work you know best: pressure-testing the analysis and shaping the technical story behind each case. If you've grown from hands-on IP technical work into leadership and want to build a practice, not just run one, we'd love to meet you. This is a fully remote role at a fast-growing, AI-forward IP consulting firm.
About Lumenci Founded in 2018, Lumenci is a full-lifecycle intellectual property platform specializing in patent litigation, expert witness testimony, and patent monetization for leading corporations and global law firms across the software, telecommunications, semiconductor, and emerging technology sectors. A key part of our model is the integration of deep technical expertise with litigation strategy. Our teams support high-stakes disputes by developing technical narratives, performing rigorous analysis, including reverse engineering and source-code review, and partnering with world-class expert witnesses whose testimony shapes case outcomes in courts and arbitration forums worldwide. Alongside our services business, our iLumOS platform delivers expert-guided AI for patent intelligence, moving clients from portfolio analysis to action in minutes rather than months. Today we work with more than 200 clients worldwide. We have analyzed over 100,000 patents, tested more than 1,200 products, and supported clients in raising over $200M in IP financing, with more than $3.5B tied to verdicts, settlements, and cost savings. That work is delivered by 150 consultants and more than 100 technical experts with exceptional academic backgrounds. Three Lumenci leaders are named in the IAM Strategy 300: The World's Leading IP Strategists 2026, and Lumenci ranks #14 in Vault's 2026 Top Consulting Asia-Pacific rankings. Headquartered in Austin, Texas, we deliver end-to-end support spanning technical analysis, expert strategy, valuation, and monetization execution. We are backed by VSS Capital Partners and Century Equity Partners, and we are growing quickly. Location: Remote, United States (open to candidates anywhere in the US) Type: Full-time Travel: Up to 20% (client meetings, matter reviews, team gatherings, and industry events) Reports to: Chief Delivery Officer Work authorization: Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship.
THE ROLE
Lumenci's delivery team produces the technical evidence behind patent litigation, licensing and monetization matters for leading corporations and law firms. As VP of Delivery, you'll run that team as a business. You'll lead our US and India consultants, own client relationships, and bring the technical depth to review, direct and stand behind every piece of work. Many firms split technical leadership from project and financial management. This role combines them. You'll own the practice's business results, the people doing the work, and the quality of what we deliver. How you'll spend your time
- About 60%: running the business, leading people, and owning client relationships
- About 40%: reviewing and signing off on work, steering analysis on high-stakes matters, and stepping in on the hardest technical questions
Our four core capabilities
- EoU claim charts: Evidence of Use reports and claim charts that map products to patent claims
- Reverse engineering: product testing, teardown, and software and hardware reverse engineering
- Source code analysis: code review, including on-site review in secure environments
- Technical diligence: portfolio due diligence, SEP analysis, technical validation and infringement assessment
We don't expect anyone to have done all of this. We're looking for deep hands-on experience in at least one area, and enough understanding of the rest to review the work, ask the right questions, and spot when something isn't right. The strongest candidates built their careers on technical delivery teams and grew into leading them. They're as comfortable in a budget review or a tough client call as they are pressure-testing a claim chart.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Run the business of delivery
- Own a portfolio of client matters running at the same time, from scoping and pricing through on-time, on-budget completion, including change orders as matters evolve.
- Own margin, utilization, and budget-to-actuals for the practice, and report results to the Chief Delivery Officer and executive leadership.
- Staff each matter with the right technical fit, balancing workload against deadlines.
- Spot risks early across technical, financial, and legal workstreams, and escalate with options, not surprises.
- Serve as the senior point of accountability on high-value matters, including fast-turn analyses on tight litigation timelines.
Lead and grow a US and India team
- Lead a growing team of technical consultants and analysts, including direct reports and matrixed contributors in the US and India.
- Run a delivery model where the internal team handles much of the production work, such as first-draft claim charts, patent mining, teardown documentation, research and exhibits, with clear daily handoffs and review cycles across time zones.
- Staff source code and other protective-order work only with consultants approved for that client.
- Own hiring with People Operations: define role profiles, interview, select, and onboard new consultants.
- Run the performance cycle, including goals, one-on-ones, feedback, reviews, calibration, and compensation recommendations, and address issues early.
- Build career paths, develop senior technical leads, and cross-train consultants across matter types and technologies.
- Build a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and psychological safety that keeps people engaged and on the team.
Own client relationships
- Serve as the senior relationship owner for clients and counsel. Lead status and strategy conversations, set expectations, and resolve escalations.
- Advise clients on approach, feasibility, and trade-offs, and present findings clearly to executives, in-house counsel, litigators, and financial decision-makers.
- Grow accounts through strong delivery by spotting follow-on work and partnering with business development. Bringing in new business is part of the role, not the core of it.
- Represent Lumenci at industry events, panels, and CLE programs.
Set technical direction (about 40%)
- Review and sign off on EoU claim charts before they go to clients, checking claim mapping, evidence strength, and defensibility.
- Direct source code, reverse engineering, and diligence work, including which products, code, and assets to focus on.
- Do hands-on analysis in your area of depth when a matter calls for it.
- Shape technical narratives that connect analysis to litigation and licensing strategy in court, arbitration, and settlement.
- Partner with testifying experts. Brief them, direct the analysis behind their reports, and review supporting exhibits.
Raise the bar
- Set the practice's quality standards, including review protocols, documentation, peer review, and defensibility checks.
- Build repeatable methods, playbooks, and training so results don't depend on a few individuals.
- Improve how the team works, from intake and workflow to capacity tracking and knowledge management.
- Champion Lumenci's AI-enabled tools and shape internal tooling around what the team needs.
- Partner with product, legal, finance, and People Operations on cross-functional initiatives.
THE TECHNOLOGY YOU'LL WORK ACROSS
Our matters cover a wide range of technology, and no one is expected to know it all. Examples include:
- Telecommunications and wireless: 3GPP, ETSI and IEEE standards; 3G, 4G LTE, 5G and 6G; Open RAN, private 5G, IoT and edge computing
- Semiconductors and hardware: chip architecture and design, EDA, advanced packaging, memory, imaging and display
- AI/ML, cloud and data center: model architectures and training pipelines, AI accelerators, distributed systems, virtualization, networking and cybersecurity
- Software and platforms: enterprise and SaaS architectures, fintech and e-commerce systems, APIs, open-source and licensing models
- Consumer, automotive and medical technology: devices and wearables, ADAS and EV systems, medical devices and digital health
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
- 12+ years in technical IP consulting or patent litigation support, including significant hands-on work in at least one of our four core areas before moving into leadership
- 5+ years leading technical delivery teams, including hiring, performance reviews, coaching, and career development (required)
- A solid general understanding of the other core areas, and the credibility to review the team's work, challenge weak analysis, and defend findings with clients and experts
- Deep knowledge of at least one high-tech domain, with the range to direct work in others
- Experience owning margin, utilization and budgets across a portfolio of matters, with strong planning, pricing, resourcing and risk management
- Experience leading distributed teams across time zones, ideally including India-based teams
- A track record of growing technical talent and promoting consultants into senior roles
- Experience building processes, standards, or tools that improved how a team works
- Clear communication skills: you can explain complex technical concepts to executives, counsel, judges and juries, and write strong reports and expert materials
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a related technical field
Backgrounds we value include IP litigation consulting and expert-services firms, technical analysis and digital forensics consultancies, source code review and reverse engineering providers, patent monetization and licensing firms, and technically focused in-house IP or licensing teams.
NICE TO HAVE
None of these are required.
- Deep experience in more than one core area
- On-site source code review under protective orders, and working knowledge of languages such as C, C++, Java, Python, Verilog or VHDL
- Invalidity claim charts, expert report support, or direct work with testifying experts
- IPR and post-grant proceedings, SEP/FRAND, damages and royalty analysis, licensing and monetization, or trade secret matters
- AI-assisted analysis or building tools that speed up analysis
- An advanced degree (MS, PhD, MBA) or JD, USPTO registration, an active bar license, PMP or Certified ScrumMaster
