Product Solutions Engineer (Applications Engineering)

Position Summary: The Product Solutions Engineer serves as the technical bridge between Sales, Marketing, and Engineering, supporting customer-driven product requests and solution development. This role combines strong technical understanding with communication and organizational skills to evaluate customer needs, develop practical product configurations or modifications, and coordinate internally to deliver effective solutions. The position focuses on providing technically sound responses to product inquiries, identifying simple design solutions for customer applications, and ensuring requests are clearly defined before escalating to engineering when necessary.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

· Customer and Technical Sales Support

o Serve as a technical resource for Sales and Marketing when evaluating product capabilities and customer requests

o Assist in translating customer needs into viable product solutions or configurations

o Provide clear technical guidance regarding product capabilities, limitations, and options

o Support customer discussions when deeper technical explanation is required

· Product Request Evaluation

o Review incoming product requests and determine feasibility based on current product capabilities

o Identify opportunities to resolve requests through existing products, configurations, or simple modifications

o Develop and communicate practical solutions that meet customer needs while maintaining product integrity and manufacturability

o Escalate more complex design challenges to engineering teams with well-defined requirements

· Solution Development

o Develop simple mechanical or system-level solutions for customer applications

o Support preparation of sketches, layouts, or documentation needed to communicate proposed solutions

o Evaluate requests for compatibility with existing products, safety listings, and manufacturing processes

· Cross-Functional Coordination

o Coordinate with Sustaining Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and Product Development to support solution implementation when required

o Maintain clear communication with Sales, Marketing, and other stakeholders regarding request status and recommended solutions

o Help ensure requests are organized, clearly documented, and efficiently routed

· Continuous Product Improvement

o Identify recurring customer requests that may indicate opportunities for product improvements or future product development

o Provide feedback to engineering and product teams on common customer needs and field challenges

o Contribute to improving internal processes for managing product requests and customer solutions

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

· Strong mechanical or electrical understanding

· Ability to understand product design, constraints, and system interactions

· Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences

· Comfortable interacting with Sales teams and customers

· Practical mindset focused on identifying workable solutions

· Ability to balance technical feasibility with customer needs

· Ability to manage multiple requests and maintain clear documentation

· Strong attention to detail and follow-through

· Comfortable working across engineering, manufacturing, and commercial

· Required Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field preferred

· 3–7 years of experience in product engineering, applications engineering, technical support engineering, or a related role

· Experience working with customer-driven product solutions in a manufacturing or engineered products environment is strongly preferred

· SolidWorks or similar CAD experience

· Salesforce or similar CRM experience

· Adode Indesign or Illustrator experience is a plus.
