What You Will Do y What You Will Do

Join a team supporting mission-critical manufacturing and machining operations at Los Alamos National Laboratory. In this role, you will provide hands-on technical and engineering support for machining equipment, manufacturing processes, and associated systems supporting plutonium operations within the Plutonium Facility (PF-4).

You will work closely with machinists, engineers, maintenance personnel, operations, and other technical staff to support reliable operation of machining equipment and successful execution of manufacturing activities. Your work may include troubleshooting equipment and process issues, supporting equipment maintenance and process improvements, developing and reviewing technical documentation and drawings, assisting with equipment installation and upgrades, and applying engineering principles to improve machining capability, reliability, safety, and performance.

This position will be filled at either the Engineering Technologist 1 or Engineering Technologist 2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

Engineering Technologist 1 - $87,800 - $143,000

As an Engineering Technologist 1, you will provide technical support for machining and manufacturing activities and the equipment used to execute those processes. As a member of the team, you will apply your education and experience to assist with troubleshooting, equipment modifications, machining process improvements, and resolution of moderately complex technical problems.

You will support engineers, machinists, and other technical personnel in evaluating machining equipment and processes; gathering and analyzing technical data; performing calculations; reading, following, preparing and reviewing drawings; developing technical documentation; and supporting equipment installation, maintenance, repair, and upgrades. You may use computer-aided design tools and other engineering software to develop or modify drawings, models, tooling concepts, equipment layouts, and technical information.

You will participate in multidisciplinary teams to help maintain equipment availability and support production objectives while ensuring work is performed in accordance with applicable safety, security, quality, and work-control requirements.

Engineering Technologist 2 - $96,600 - $158,000

In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, the Engineering Technologist 2 will independently resolve a broader range of complex machining, manufacturing, and equipment-related technical issues.

At this level, you will take greater ownership of troubleshooting and technical problem solving associated with machining equipment and manufacturing processes. You will perform more complex engineering calculations and analyses, evaluate equipment performance, recommend modifications and improvements, and support the planning and implementation of new or upgraded machining capabilities.

You will work closely with machinists, engineers, maintenance personnel, and operations in addition to management, partner organizations, and outside vendors to determine technical approaches and develop solutions that improve equipment reliability, manufacturability, process performance, and operational efficiency. You may provide technical direction to design and drafting personnel, coordinate technical activities, support equipment procurements and specifications, and communicate equipment and process status to technical personnel and management.
