Original job description

Standard Job Description

Integration and Test Engineer / UAS Operator Staff Who We Are At Lockheed Martin Rotary and Mission Systems (RMS), we turn bold ideas into mission-critical capabilities for those who protect our nation. Our Owego team is pioneering a new era of collaborative autonomy by developing Group 1 & 2 uncrewed aircraft that launch from, operate alongside, and team with crewed platforms. This is an opportunity to help define a capability from the ground up, take it from the lab to the flight line, and see your work perform in the real world. We are looking for hungry, smart, and enthusiastic engineers who are excited to work on cutting-edge, tangible products in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. If you are ready to shape the future of autonomous teaming and deliver technology that truly takes flight, join us. What We’re Doing We are seeking a Staff Integration and Test Engineer / UAS Operator to support the Launched Effects Family of Systems (LE FoS) in Owego, NY. This role combines hands-on Integration and Test engineering with operational UAS testing and demonstration activities. You will own the technical integrity and operational success of LE, and collaborative autonomy capabilities. You will lead Integration and Test activities from the laboratory to the flight line, developing and executing SIT procedures, supporting FIPs, driving customer demonstrations, and helping validate UAV flight, collaborative behaviors, airborne launch, and recovery operations. The Work You will support the development of technical solutions, simulation infrastructure, system checkout, defect resolution, operational testing, and customer demonstrations. This role supports collaborative-autonomy-enabled small UAS applications and integrates UAV development and airborne launch operations into mission-critical environments.

Key Responsibilities

Operate effectively in a team environment, optimizing communication and collaboration with Software, Systems, Hardware Engineering, Manufacturing, Program Management, and suppliers.
Drive innovative ideas for optimizing Systems Integration and Test engineering processes, specifically by leveraging collaborative autonomy for UAS integration and airborne launch effectiveness.
Lead the development of customer demonstrations and operational utilization activities, ensuring seamless integration of collaborative autonomy capabilities into vertical-lift and expeditionary frameworks.

Please Note

This role is based in Owego, NY.
U.S. citizenship is required.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD government security clearance at the Secret level.

Who You Are You are a results-driven, mid-career engineering professional - an engineer who loves to fly or a pilot who thinks like an engineer - with experience designing embedded systems and autonomy capabilities. You are comfortable in both the laboratory and the field. You enjoy solving complex technical problems, working across disciplines, and delivering reliable, high-quality systems for real-world applications. You understand system integration and avionics lifecycle processes, take flight safety seriously, and are passionate about mission success in the domains of autonomous teaming and UAV development. You thrive in hands-on environments where innovative thinking, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and system optimization are essential. From first flight through customer demonstration and airborne collaborative operations, you are ready to take ownership, investigate problems, communicate clearly, and help deliver capabilities that perform in the real world.

Basic Qualifications

Requires a degree in electrical, mechanical, or computer engineering; computer science; or a related field, or five years of applicable experience.
Experience with requirements development, system design, problem analysis and resolution, and integration and test.
Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite, including Excel and Access, or other database applications.
Ability to obtain an FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate.
Experience in requirements traceability, Integration and Test, software verification, procedure development, and test-development metrics.

Desired Skills

Current FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate.
Proven systems engineering and Integration and Test experience with UAS, Launched Effects, or related mission systems.
Demonstrated experience with Group 1 and 2 UAV development and airborne launch operations.
Strong background in fostering autonomous teaming and collaborative autonomy across multidisciplinary technical teams.

Experience analyzing data with tools such as MATLAB or Python.
Experience interfacing and communicating with customers.
Experience working with a diverse range of complex electrical hardware and software systems.
Experience preparing Bases of Estimate (BOEs) and performing cost estimation.
Experience applying systems engineering practices across an overall system.
Ability to read and apply technical schematics, drawings, software specifications, manuals, and other technical materials to resolve complex problems.
Experience with requirements-tracking and defect-tracking tools, such as Cameo, DOORS, and JIRA.
Ability to brief and teach technical information to internal and external audiences.
