Original job description

About Life360

Life360’s mission is to keep people close to the ones they love. Our category-leading mobile app, Tile tracking devices, and Pet GPS tracker empower members to protect the people, pets, and things they care about most with a range of services, including location sharing, safe driver reports, and crash detection with emergency dispatch. Life360 serves approximately 100 million monthly active users across more than 180 countries.

Life360 delivers peace of mind and enhances everyday family life with seamless coordination for all the moments that matter, big and small. By continuing to innovate and deliver for our customers, we have become a household name and the must-have mobile-based membership for families (and those friends who are basically family).

Life360 has more than 500 (and growing!) remote-first employees. For more information, please visit life360.com.

Life360 is a Remote-First company, which means a remote work environment will be the primary experience for all employees. All positions, unless otherwise specified, can be performed remotely (within the US) regardless of any specified location above.

We are AI Native

We are building an AI native company where AI is an integral part of how we build and operate. AI tool usage during interviews varies by role. You may be asked to demonstrate proficiency with AI tools, discuss how you leverage AI, or complete interview exercises without AI assistance. Your Recruiter will provide clear guidance as you move through the interview process.

Undisclosed use of AI not previously discussed with or approved by your Recruiter may impact your candidacy.

About The Team

Our Infrastructure Operating Group owns the platforms, systems, and tooling that Life360’s engineering, product, and design teams build on every day, from build/deploy pipelines and internal tools to the reliability behind an app that tens of millions of families trust with their safety. We treat infrastructure as a competitive advantage, not a cost center: our real product is the velocity at which we can build a great experience for our members, so we obsess over developer experience and the systems that they build on, including the move to AI-native ways of working.

We hold ourselves to a high standard of craft and have direct, honest conversations about quality, scope, and trade-offs because we care about building things that last. Life360 is scaling fast, and this team will be at the center of that growth, unlocking what the rest of the company can build, including the next wave of AI-powered features.

About the Job

We’re looking for an experienced VP of Infrastructure Engineering to lead the platform, systems, and infrastructure organization behind Life360’s products. You’ll shape our technical strategy to scale reliably toward our 2028 goals of 150M monthly active users and $1B+ in revenue, and help the engineering organization adopt AI-native ways of working.

What You'll Do

While this is a leadership role and we expect you to be well-rounded across all areas, the specific areas of emphasis will be on the following pillars:

Strategic Leadership – Define, communicate, and execute an infrastructure vision in partnership with your functional counterparts that complements Life360's broader goals. Align infrastructure investment with business objectives in close collaboration with the executive team.
Developer Productivity & Enablement – Build the build/deploy pipelines, internal tooling, and self-service platforms that let engineering, product, and design teams ship faster - including AI-powered capabilities - without compromising security, privacy, or cost discipline. Bring firsthand experience helping an organization move toward AI-native ways of working, whether you drove that shift or were a meaningful part of it.
Reliability & Scalability – Keep infrastructure scaling securely and cost-effectively as user growth and workload complexity increase. Uptime, latency, observability, and disaster recovery are non-negotiables for systems serving tens of millions of families.
Team Leadership & Culture – Recruit, mentor, and grow a world-class infrastructure and platform engineering team. Act as a strong voice for engineering craft and culture, and foster innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Cross-Functional Alignment – Partner closely with Engineering, Data Science/ML, Security, and Product leaders to plan and execute strategic infrastructure initiatives, including the compute and platform needs that support AI-powered features.

What We're Looking For

A degree in Computer Science or a related field.
A seasoned infrastructure/platform engineering leader with a track record of building stellar teams.
Many years of experience leading large-scale infrastructure or platform engineering organizations, including leading through managers or directors.
Deep technical fluency in distributed systems and cloud architecture.
A track record of scaling infrastructure for consumer products at massive scale - from iterative reliability improvements to big-bet platform investments.
Direct experience with, or meaningful involvement in, an organization's shift toward AI-native ways of working. Leading it isn't required, but you've seen it from the inside.
A bias for speed - constantly pushing to try new things, and learning quickly from what doesn't work to find what does.
Strong instincts for data - comfortable digging into cost, performance, and reliability metrics to spot what's working and what isn't, and using KPIs on reliability and cost efficiency to guide decisions.
A background at companies known for engineering excellence and resilient, high-performing platforms.
Strategic thinking paired with strong storytelling - the ability to motivate and inspire a team around a shared technical vision.
A genuine conviction that robust, well-designed infrastructure is a competitive differentiator - the invisible foundation that makes great user experiences possible.
A hands-on approach - comfortable delegating, but ultimately owns everything the team ships.
A reputation for having tough, direct conversations while staying kind and respectful.
Comfort with risk-taking and big swings, and making decisions with incomplete information.
Alignment with our values: Be a Good Person; Be Direct, with Respect; Members Before Metrics; High Intensity, High Impact.

Nice to Have

Exposure to the infrastructure demands of AI-powered products (for example, supporting inference or ML workloads) and comfort operating in the fast-moving AI landscape.

Our Benefits

Medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance plans (100% paid for employees)
Paid parental leave
401(k) plan with company matching program
Mental Wellness Program & Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for mental well-being
Generous time off: flexible PTO, companywide holidays throughout the year plus summer and winter shutdowns
Learning & Development programs
Equipment, tools, and reimbursement support for a productive remote environment
Free Life360 Platinum Membership and Tile trackers

Life360 Values

Our company’s mission-driven culture is guided by our shared values to create a trusted work environment where you can bring your authentic self to work and make a positive difference

Be a Good Person - We have a team of high integrity people you can trust.
Be Direct With Respect - We communicate directly, even when it’s hard.
Members Before Metrics - We focus on building an exceptional experience for families.
High Intensity, High Impact - We do whatever it takes to get the job done.

Our Commitment to Belonging

Life360 is an equal opportunity employer. We don’t discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, disability status, or any other legally protected status. We believe diverse perspectives make us better, and we’re building a workplace that reflects the communities we serve. Don’t meet every qualification? Apply anyway.
