  • Approve technical approaches on assigned projects, resolve technical conflicts between disciplines, and lead resolution of high-consequence technical issues, including non-standard designs, major project risks, and system performance problems.
  • Deliver assigned programs and projects, such as standards development and implementation, grid modernization and substation projects, within approved budgets. Own implementation, including scoping, planning, prioritization, and coordination.
  • Set peer review and technical review expectations for engineering and operations work products, and review complex designs, studies, and analyses.
  • Advise the Director and senior leadership on major capital programs, critical infrastructure decisions, complex system risks, regulatory impacts, technology strategy, and investment priorities.
  • Develop technical and investment recommendations for long-range capital planning, asset renewal, modernization, and reliability improvement.
  • Prepare and support written regulatory testimony, filings, and data request responses, and serve as a company witness when assigned. Exercise sound discretion and legal awareness when responding to regulatory data requests.
  • Represent the company at the state and federal level, in industry forums, and in strategic partnerships.
  • Evaluate and implement new technology solutions in areas such as grid modernization, digital substations, automation, and advanced protection schemes.
  • Train, mentor, and coach engineers, and support succession planning for the engineering technical leadership pipeline.
  • Occasional travel to utility facilities, project sites, substations, conferences, and industry meetings is required. Technical support during significant system events or emergencies outside normal business hours may be required.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering school with 20+ years of progressively responsible utility engineering experience.
  • Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in California required, or the ability and willingness to obtain California P.E. within 6 months, if currently licensed in another state.
  • Technical leadership experience across multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Demonstrated expertise in electric utility design, planning, protection, operations, reliability, asset management, capital programs, regulatory requirements, and grid modernization.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare written regulatory testimony and serve as a company witness.
  • Demonstrated ability to represent the company at the state and federal level.
  • Must have the ability to express both technical and non-technical information to individuals or groups in an organized, accurate and clear manner.
  • Strong executive advisory, technical governance, risk assessment, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
