Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate the current cost structure and financial model supporting clinical research and industry-sponsored trials.

  • Build scenario models illustrating the financial and operational effects of changes in clinical trial volume and resource requirements.
  • Translate growth projections into workforce and staffing plans.
  • Evaluate funding and cost-allocation considerations across multiple clinical research stakeholders.
  • Assess the financial implications of expanding research space and other infrastructure.
  • Incorporate pharmacy and additional research-support costs into financial projections.

  • Partner with finance, clinical research, operational, and other cross-functional stakeholders to reconcile assumptions and develop a practical planning framework.
  • Present findings, financial projections, and strategic recommendations to organizational leadership.

Qualifications

  • Experience in healthcare finance, clinical research finance, research administration, FP&A, or a related financial planning function.
  • Advanced experience with financial modeling, budgeting, forecasting, cost analysis, and scenario planning.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop complex financial projections and translate operational growth into financial and workforce requirements.
  • Experience working in a complex healthcare, academic medical center, research, or similarly matrixed environment is highly desirable.
  • Previous exposure to clinical trials, sponsored research, research grants, or research operations is preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to independently assess complex business challenges.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required.
  • Experience with ERP, business intelligence, financial reporting, or data visualization platforms is beneficial.
  • Ability to operate effectively at a Program Manager, Team Lead, Senior Consultant, or strategic advisor level.

What Success Looks Like The successful consultant will be able to independently evaluate an evolving clinical research operation and develop a clear financial planning model that helps leadership understand:

  • The current cost of supporting clinical research operations.
  • How increased clinical trial volume could affect revenue and expenses.
  • Future staffing and workforce requirements.
  • Capacity, space, and resource needs associated with growth.
  • Financial implications under multiple growth scenarios.
  • Funding and cost-allocation considerations associated with future expansion.

This role is ideal for a senior finance professional who combines hands-on financial modeling expertise with strategic thinking and strong stakeholder management skills.
