Original job description

Kurv is a fast-growing fintech company supporting businesses across many industries with modern and flexible payment solutions. Known for serving a wide range of merchant needs, Kurv continues to grow through innovation, service, and a commitment to making commerce easier for everyone.

We're looking for a polished, dependable Receptionist to be the face and first line of security for our office. Kurv operates a secure environment subject to Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) requirements, which means every person who enters our building must be identified, authorized, and recorded, you'll own that process.

This role is a strong fit for someone who takes accuracy seriously, shows up on time every day, and stays composed when a call gets difficult. We serve merchants, and some of them call in upset, you'll need thick skin and a steady, professional tone. Administrative responsibilities will grow over time as you build your skills and we build the role.

What You'll Do

Facility Access Control and PCI Compliance

Accurate visitor logging is the most important part of this job. Our compliance depends on a complete, correct record of every entry and exit, with no exceptions.

  • Verify the identity of every visitor before granting entry, including review of government-issued photo identification where required by company procedure.
  • Record every visitor's name, company, purpose of visit, host employee, time in, and time out - with no exceptions for frequent visitors, vendors, or executives' guests.
  • Issue, track, and retrieve visitor badges; confirm all badges are returned and accounted for at the end of each visit and each day.
  • Ensure visitors are escorted by their host at all times while in the facility and are never left unattended in secure areas.
  • Confirm each visitor is properly signed out on departure and reconcile the log against badges issued at the end of each day.
  • Maintain visitor logs in the required format and retain them according to the company's PCI retention requirements.
  • Prevent tailgating and unauthorized entry; immediately escalate any unidentified individual, access discrepancy, or security concern.
  • Protect the confidentiality of visitor records and any sensitive information observed at the front desk.
  • Participate in required security awareness and PCI compliance training.

Reception and Guest Services

  • Be at the front desk and ready to receive guests at the scheduled start time every workday; consistent, punctual attendance is an essential function of this position.
  • Greet all visitors promptly and professionally, notify hosts of arrivals, and maintain a clean, orderly reception area.
  • Present a polished, professional image that reflects Kurv's standards.

Telephone and Merchant Communications

  • Answer the main phone line promptly and professionally, route calls accurately, and take complete messages.
  • Handle calls from upset, frustrated, or confrontational merchants with composure and courtesy; de-escalate where possible and route the caller to the appropriate department without making commitments outside the scope of the role.
  • Document escalated or abusive calls and notify the appropriate manager.
  • Never request, accept, record, or repeat full card numbers or other cardholder data over the phone, and follow company procedures for redirecting callers who attempt to share it.

Administrative Support

  • Receive, sort, and distribute incoming mail and packages; coordinate outgoing shipments and courier pickups.
  • Support conference room scheduling and meeting setup.
  • Perform additional administrative duties as assigned; the scope of these duties is expected to grow over time.

What You Bring

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1–2 years of experience in a receptionist, front desk, customer service, or administrative role.
  • Demonstrated record of reliable, punctual attendance.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office or Google Workspace and multi-line phone systems.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check, consistent with applicable law.

Preferred

  • Experience in a regulated or secure environment (financial services, payments, healthcare, legal, or similar).
  • Familiarity with visitor management systems or badge access procedures.
  • Experience handling escalated customer calls in a call center or service setting.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

  • This is a fully on-site position in a secure office environment; regular, predictable, in-person attendance is an essential function of the job.
  • Coverage of the front desk is required throughout business hours; breaks and absences must be coordinated in advance so the desk is covered and access logging is uninterrupted.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods, use a computer and phone for most of the workday, and communicate clearly in person and by phone.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry packages and supplies up to [25] pounds.

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
