Original job description
Technical Editor/Engineering Report Editor
If you're an editor who notices inconsistent formatting, catches grammatical errors others miss, and takes pride in producing polished, professional documents, we'd love to hear from you. Knight Piésold is seeking a Technical Editor to join our Denver team and support the quality and consistency of engineering, environmental, and consulting deliverables.
This role is ideal for an experienced technical editor who enjoys working with complex technical content prepared by engineers and scientists. Rather than creating software documentation or user manuals, you will review, edit, proofread, and format reports, proposals, presentations, and other technical documents to ensure they are accurate, clear, professional, and client-ready.
In this role, you will collaborate with subject matter experts around the world and play an important role in how technical information is communicated to clients, regulators, and stakeholders.
Why Join Knight Piésold?
- You will be joining a reputable, well-established global consulting firm with over 100 years of industry experience.
- We believe in the One Team approach, with everyone working together toward achieving a shared goal. Our employees develop their skills through working on diverse projects, our knowledge-sharing culture, career mentoring program, and collaborating with top professionals in the industry.
About This Role
As a Technical Editor, your primary responsibility will be serving as the final editor and quality reviewer for technical documents prepared by engineers, geologists, environmental scientists, and other technical professionals. Your focus will be on editing, proofreading, formatting, and quality assurance rather than on developing software documentation or creating content from scratch, as is common in other similarly titled positions.
Working closely with project teams, you will help review deliverables for clarity, accuracy, professionalism, and compliance with company standards before being issued to clients.
Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Edit, proofread, and format engineering reports, technical memoranda, studies, proposals, presentations, and other business documents.
- Review content for grammar, punctuation, spelling, readability, clarity, consistency, and adherence to company style standards.
- Ensure consistency between text, tables, figures, appendices, references, and supporting documentation.
- Serve as the primary editor for engineering reports and technical documents, collaborating with engineers and technical subject matter experts to improve organization, flow, readability, and consistency.
- Verify facts, references, data, figures, and tables for consistency and accuracy throughout documents.
- Apply advanced Microsoft Word formatting, including styles, templates, section breaks, captions, cross-references, automatic numbering, and tables of contents.
- Maintain and enhance document templates, formatting standards, and style guides to promote a consistent professional brand.
- Perform final quality-control reviews of client deliverables prior to submission.
- Coordinate multiple editing and document production assignments while balancing competing priorities and deadlines.
- Support project teams with document control and document management activities, including maintaining document logs and tracking issued and received documents.
- Confirm compliance with company processes, ISO requirements, and project-specific documentation standards.
- Assist with other administrative or project-related tasks, as needed.
Who Will Be Successful in This Role?
