Original job description

Substitute Teacher – Kimberly School District Kimberly School District is seeking dependable, flexible, and student-focused individuals to join our substitute teacher pool. Substitute teachers play an important role in keeping learning moving when our regular classroom teachers are unable to be in the classroom. Position Overview Substitute teachers provide classroom coverage on an as-needed basis throughout Kimberly School District. Substitutes have the flexibility to view available assignments and choose the jobs that work with their schedules. Assignments and frequency of work are not guaranteed.

Responsibilities

  • Follow lesson plans and instructions provided by the classroom teacher.
  • Maintain a safe, positive, and productive learning environment.
  • Provide appropriate supervision and classroom management.
  • Support students in completing assigned learning activities.
  • Follow school and district procedures, schedules, and expectations.
  • Communicate relevant information to the classroom teacher and/or building staff at the conclusion of the assignment.
  • Maintain professionalism and confidentiality when working with students, staff, and families.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work positively with students and staff.
  • Dependable, professional, and able to adapt to a variety of classroom environments.
  • Successful completion of Kimberly School District's required screening and approval process.
  • Successful completion of required Substitute Teacher Orientation prior to being activated in the district's substitute pool.
  • A bachelor's degree or teaching certificate is not required to serve as a regular substitute teacher. Pay rates vary based on education level. An active teaching certificate is required to qualify for the long-term substitute rate.

Compensation

Substitute teacher pay is based on education level:

  • Without a bachelor's degree: $110 full day / $55 half day
  • Bachelor's degree or higher: $125 full day / $67.50 half day
  • Long-Term Substitute Assignments: Substitutes who hold an active teaching certificate may qualify for long-term substitute pay. The rate is $125 per day for the first 10 consecutive days in the same assignment. For substitutes who meet the active teaching certificate requirement, beginning on day 11, the substitute will be paid at the first-year teacher rate for each additional consecutive day in that assignment. A break in the assignment resets the long-term substitute calculation.

Application & Selection Process Applications are reviewed by Kimberly School District. Selected applicants will be contacted regarding next steps, which may include reference checks, required screening, background check/fingerprinting, drug screening, and Substitute Teacher Orientation. Submission of an application does not guarantee acceptance into the substitute pool. Once approved, substitutes may select from available assignments based on their availability and preferences. Substitute assignments are not guaranteed. Questions? Contact Bridget Tilton at btilton@kimberly.edu or 208-423-4170 ext. 3308.
