Original job description

Kforce has a client in Old Westbury, NY that is seeking a Systems Engineer. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys solving infrastructure challenges, improving systems through automation, and working across both on-premises and cloud technologies.

Summary:

The Systems Engineer will have the opportunity to work with Microsoft and Linux environments, cloud services, virtualization, identity platforms, automation, cybersecurity, and high-performance computing while serving as a senior technical resource within the infrastructure team. This position offers a hybrid work environment with remote flexibility and access to New York-area offices.

What You'll Do:

  • Administer and optimize enterprise Windows, Linux, cloud, virtualization, backup, and infrastructure platforms
  • Manage Microsoft Hyper-V environments, including deployment, configuration, monitoring, patching, and lifecycle management
  • Support Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID, including authentication and identity services.

Administer Microsoft 365, including Exchange Online, Teams, and SharePoint

  • Manage Linux environments supporting High-Performance Computing (HPC) and other advanced computing workloads
  • Develop and maintain automation supporting infrastructure operations and system administration
  • Coordinate workload automation across cloud and on-premises environments
  • Support storage, backup, endpoint management, patching, and infrastructure hardware
  • Partner with cybersecurity teams on secure system configuration, monitoring, incident response, and investigations
  • Provide advanced Tier 2/Tier 3 troubleshooting for infrastructure and performance issues
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend improvements to scalability, reliability, security, and performance
  • Create technical documentation, operational procedures, standards, and support runbooks
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline
  • Relevant technical certifications are a plus
  • 5+ years of recent systems engineering experience supporting enterprise infrastructure, cloud services, and related technologies
  • Strong administration experience across Windows and UNIX/Linux environments
  • Hands-on experience with Active Directory, Microsoft 365, Teams, and cloud technologies
  • Experience administering Linux and High-Performance Computing environments
  • Familiarity with endpoint management platforms such as SCCM and Jamf
  • Experience with at least one scripting language, such as PowerShell, Python, Bash, or Perl
  • Familiarity with databases, SQL, and CI/CD concepts
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices and compliance requirements
  • Understanding of networking, directory, and authentication technologies such as DNS, DHCP, LDAP, SAML, ADFS, HTTP, NFS, and SMB/Samba
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, documentation, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple technical initiatives while collaborating with stakeholders at different levels of technical expertise
  • Flexibility to support occasional evening or weekend work when needed

Why Join? This is an opportunity to take on broad technical ownership within a sophisticated infrastructure environment rather than being limited to a narrow area of systems administration. You'll gain exposure to cloud infrastructure, automation, cybersecurity, virtualization, identity management, Linux/HPC environments, and enterprise Microsoft technologies while helping shape the reliability and evolution of critical systems.
