Kforce has a client that is seeking a Senior GDPS Consultant (Remote).
Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Senior GDPS Specialist (SME) to design, implement, maintain, and support enterprise mainframe high-availability and disaster recovery environments. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience with Company GDPS, z/OS, Parallel Sysplex, and enterprise storage replication technologies, serving as a technical SME focused on business continuity, resiliency, and disaster recovery across Company Z environments.
Key Responsibilities:
GDPS Architecture & Engineering:
- Design, implement, configure, and maintain IBM GDPS environments
- Support GDPS Metro, Global, Metro Global, and Continuous Availability solutions, as applicable
- Maintain GDPS automation policies and recovery procedures
- Troubleshoot complex GDPS infrastructure and recovery issues
Mainframe Infrastructure:
- Support z/OS environments running in Parallel Sysplex configurations
- Configure and troubleshoot Coupling Facilities, XCF, CFRM, and Sysplex Timer/STP
- Support IBM Z hardware, infrastructure, and System Automation for z/OS
Storage Replication & Disaster Recovery:
- Support IBM Metro Mirror, Global Mirror, HyperSwap, and DS8000 storage systems
- Plan, execute, and validate disaster recovery testing and site failover/failback procedures
- Troubleshoot replication, synchronization, and recovery automation issues
- Ensure recovery solutions meet established RTO and RPO requirements
Technical Leadership:
- Serve as the senior technical escalation point for GDPS-related issues
- Partner with mainframe, storage, infrastructure, and disaster recovery teams
- Assess and recommend improvements to infrastructure resiliency
- Maintain technical documentation, recovery procedures, and operational runbooks
- Participate in major upgrades, migrations, and recovery exercises
- 10+ years of Company mainframe infrastructure experience
- 5+ years of hands-on Company GDPS implementation, configuration, or engineering experience
- Strong expertise with Company z/OS and Parallel Sysplex
- Experience configuring and supporting GDPS disaster recovery environments
- Strong knowledge of Company System Automation for z/OS
- Hands-on experience with Company DS8000 storage and replication technologies
- Experience with Metro Mirror, Global Mirror, or HyperSwap
- Strong understanding of Coupling Facilities, XCF, CFRM, and STP
- Demonstrated experience executing disaster recovery tests and failover/failback procedures
- Ability to independently troubleshoot complex mainframe infrastructure issues
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience designing or implementing new GDPS environments
- Experience with GDPS Metro Global or GDPS Continuous Availability
- Experience supporting large financial services, insurance, or other mission-critical mainframe environments
- Company Z infrastructure modernization experience
- Experience with multi-site disaster recovery architecture
- REXX and JCL scripting experience
- Experience with Company NetView and automation technologies
- Experience serving as a lead architect or technical SME on enterprise mainframe projects
Ideal Candidate Profile:
We are looking for a hands-on GDPS engineer or architect, not simply someone who has worked in a mainframe environment where GDPS was installed. The successful candidate should have direct experience configuring GDPS, managing replication and recovery automation, troubleshooting complex failures, and participating in actual disaster recovery testing. Candidates who have independently designed, implemented, or upgraded GDPS environments will receive strong consideration.
