Original job description

Kforce has a client that is seeking a Backend Java Developer in Long Island City, NY.

Summary:

We're looking for a highly technical Backend Java Developer to help build and enhance high-volume, real-time applications. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with complex backend systems, streaming data, cloud technologies, and production-grade applications while taking ownership from development through deployment. This is a contract-to-hire opportunity with limited onsite expectations, approximately 8 times per year.

What You'll Do:

Backend Java Developer will design, develop, and enhance scalable backend applications using Java and Spring Boot
Work within existing codebases to troubleshoot, modify, and implement new functionality
Build solutions that process high-volume, real-time streaming data and messaging
Develop and integrate applications using cloud-based messaging services, with Azure experience preferred
Design and work with NoSQL databases, such as Cosmos DB, MongoDB, or DynamoDB
As a Backend Java Developer, you will support production applications through logging, monitoring, performance optimization, troubleshooting, and incident resolution
Partner with engineering and cloud teams to build reliable, scalable, production-ready solutions
Strong hands-on experience with backend Java development and Spring Boot
Experience building or supporting real-time streaming and messaging applications
Experience with Azure Service Bus, Event Hubs, Kafka, or similar messaging technologies
Experience working within a cloud environment, with Azure preferred
Experience supporting high-volume production applications, including monitoring, logging, and performance tuning
Strong understanding of NoSQL databases and data modeling
Kubernetes experience is a plus, but not required

Why This Opportunity? You'll work on technically challenging, high-volume applications where scalability, real-time processing, and production reliability truly matter. It's a great fit for a senior engineer who wants to stay hands-on while solving complex backend problems.

The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.

We offer comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, HSA, FSA, 401(k), and life, disability & ADD insurance to eligible employees. Salaried personnel receive paid time off. Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.

Note: Pay is not considered compensation until it is earned, vested and determinable. The amount and availability of any compensation remains in Kforce's sole discretion unless and until paid and may be modified in its discretion consistent with the law.

This job is not eligible for bonuses, incentives or commissions.

Kforce is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, protected veteran status, or disability status.

By clicking “Apply Today” you agree to receive calls, AI-generated calls, text messages or emails from Kforce and its affiliates, and service providers.
