Airborne Platform Coordinator

The Airborne Platform Coordinator provides systems engineering, technical integration, and operational planning support for airborne platforms participating in aerospace test and demonstration activities. The position leads the evaluation, selection, and survey of candidate aircraft to determine whether each platform can satisfy mission, sensor, communications, power, security, flight, and operational requirements. The Airborne Platform Coordinator manages flight clearances, overflight permissions, airfield requirements, flight-track geometries, station-keeping profiles, and field-of-view alignment with the applicable re-entry corridor. The position coordinates platform agreements and sensor integration requirements among aircraft operators, airfield personnel, sensor teams, engineers, range organizations, and government stakeholders. The Airborne Platform Coordinator also supports the Sensor Technology Selection Board as an evaluator and communicates platform risks, constraints, recommendations, and readiness status to technical and program leadership.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead the evaluation and selection of airborne platforms based on mission objectives, sensor requirements, aircraft capabilities, flight performance, operating locations, and deployment constraints.
  • Plan and conduct airborne platform surveys to assess aircraft configuration, available power, communications, sensor mounting locations, data interfaces, physical security, and integration readiness.
  • Manage platform agreements and coordinate technical, operational, contractual, and logistical requirements with aircraft owners, operators, government representatives, and mission partners.
  • Define and coordinate airborne sensor integration requirements, including electrical power, data interfaces, communications, frequency authorizations, equipment placement, aircraft modifications, and physical security.
  • Coordinate flight clearances, overflight permissions, airfield access, base-of-operations requirements, and other approvals necessary to conduct flight activities.
  • Develop flight-track geometries and station-keeping profiles that support required sensor coverage, mission timelines, aircraft performance limitations, airspace restrictions, and safety constraints.
  • Develop and assess field-of-view look angles relative to the applicable re-entry corridor, sensor location, aircraft altitude, flight track, and mission geometry.
  • Identify platform integration risks, airspace conflicts, schedule dependencies, and operational constraints; develop and track recommended mitigation actions.
  • Support technical reviews, flight-readiness reviews, planning meetings, mission rehearsals, and demonstration activities by presenting platform requirements, status, risks, and recommendations.
  • Serve as an evaluator on the Sensor Technology Selection Board and assess proposed sensor technologies against airborne platform capabilities and mission requirements.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, mathematics, or another closely related technical discipline.
  • At least seven years of professional experience supporting aerospace systems, space systems, flight-test systems, sensor systems, mission systems, or comparable complex technical programs.
  • Current active U.S. Government Secret security clearance. TS/SCI preferred.
  • Experience supporting systems engineering activities involving requirements analysis, system integration, technical planning, operational coordination, or mission-facility support.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience coordinating manned or unmanned airborne platforms, flight-test aircraft, range-support aircraft, or airborne intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance systems.
  • Experience integrating electro-optical, infrared, radar, telemetry, communications, or other mission sensors aboard aircraft.
  • Experience supporting flight clearances, overflight permissions, airspace coordination, flight-test planning, re-entry observations, or airborne sensor demonstrations.
