Position Summary
KBR is seeking a Senior/Principal Systems Modeling & Simulation/Systems Engineer to join the Structural Engineering and Analysis team supporting NASA Goddard Space Flight Center Programs. This position would provide structural engineering, analysis, and test support for a wide range of cutting edge and exciting aerospace projects including space telescopes, earth science satellites, Mars, Moon and asteroid science missions, robotic servicing missions, and associated mechanical ground support equipment.
Responsibilities
IM Modeling & Systems Analysis Duties
Implement necessary changes to convert the standard STOP structural model to support composite moisture desorption analysis for both steady state and transient cases; the latter includes coordination with thermal modelers/analysts to enable temperature mapping onto the structural model and implementation of temperature variability for key variables
Perform steady state and transient moisture desorption analysis for flight and TVAC test cases with primary responsibility for recovering distortions and coordinating with opto-mechanical and optical analysts to recover optical performance metrics
Perform Monte Carlo analysis as necessary to validate Model Uncertainty Factors (MUF) based on variability of key model properties Invar Growth Analysis Implement necessary changes to convert the standard STOP structural model to support Invar growth analysis
Perform steady state Invar growth analysis for flight cases with primary responsibility for recovering distortions and coordinating with opto-mechanical and optical analysts to recover optical performance metrics
Perform Monte Carlo analysis as necessary to validate Model Uncertainty Factors (MUF) based on variability of key model properties Gravity Release Analysis Implement necessary changes to convert the standard STOP structural model to support gravity release analysis
Perform gravity release analysis with primary responsibility for recovering distortions and coordinating with opto-mechanical and optical analysts to recover optical performance metrics
Perform Monte Carlo analysis as necessary to validate Model Uncertainty Factors (MUF) based on variability of key model properties
STOP Pipeline Tool Development Duties
Maintain and improve on an existing script database which includes tens of thousands of lines of custom code tailored to Roman and Habitable Worlds Observatory analysis workflows for Structural-Thermal-Optical Performance (STOP) analysis
Work with performance stakeholders (science, systems, optical, etc.) to define performance metrics that support understanding of overall observatory, telescope, and instrument optical performance; develop corresponding analysis scripts
Implement new analysis capabilities into the STOP pipeline tool to support analysis cycle objectives; this includes, but is not limited to adding functionality for composite moisture desorption and Invar growth analyses, and others as necessary
Identify and implement analysis process automation features as well as integrate the STOP Pipeline tool with separate industry toolsets that facilitate iterative systems analysis methods
