Original job description

About KARL STORZ

From the operating room to surgery centers - and everywhere in between - KARL STORZ North America is a global leader in medical technology and advanced visualization solutions. We design specialty innovations, smart instruments and devices, integrated ecosystems, and intelligent imaging - to build a more connected, software-enabled operating room. As an independent, family-owned MedTech company, we ambitiously think in generations instead of quarters to improve patients’ lives around the world.

The following opportunity is to join our Asensus entity which is focused on imaging software.

About the Role

As a Software Engineer III based on site in Raleigh, NC, you’ll analyze, design, develop, debug, and modify software enhancements and new products used in the operating-room environment. You’ll develop software and design tools supporting infrastructure and technology platforms, including operating systems, utilities, databases, and networks.

You’ll also create end-user requirements and marketing and engineering specifications for custom software applications supporting streaming, encoding and decoding, and audio/video controls and integration. As an integral member of the Engineering team, you’ll support product-development efforts across the organization while working within FDA and internal requirements. The compensation range for this role is $101,800 to $132,300. Additionally, this role requires up to 10% travel annually.

This position is not eligible for current or future employment visa sponsorship.

What You’ll Do

Lead the design, development, modification, documentation, and implementation of scalable software applications using Scrum and Agile methodologies and technologies such as Angular, .NET, C#, Web API, microservices, databases, and Entity Framework.
Guide and participate in the complete software-development lifecycle, from requirements gathering through testing and deployment in real-world environments.
Contribute to architecture, design, and code reviews while providing technical guidance and feedback to team members.
Plan and perform unit testing and debugging, define test conditions based on code specifications, and participate in test review, analysis, witnessing, and software certification.
Design and implement improvements to the performance, usability, scalability, and maintainability of software products.
Participate in Scrum meetings and lead them as needed, while coordinating compliance initiatives with Regulatory personnel before product launch.
Lead prototyping, testing, vendor research, and vendor selection, and work with Product Strategy leadership to support efficiency, quality, and cost control throughout the design process.
Coordinate software-system installations, monitor equipment performance, evaluate hardware configurations, train installation and assembly personnel, maintain Design History File documentation, and research emerging applications, technologies, and industry practices.

What You Bring

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
5 years of relevant software-development experience.
5 years of experience with Angular, C# programming, .NET, SQL Server, Web API, Node.js, and JavaScript.
Experience with microservices architecture, Entity Framework, databases, and the design and development of GUI components in Angular.
Experience across the product-development lifecycle, including ownership of end-to-end product development at the box or system level.
Ability to translate product requirements into design specifications that support key product-development objectives.
Experience documenting and communicating system-design deliverables and developing software within a multi-team environment.
Knowledge of media types, video formats, resolutions, system configurations, and system performance, along with the ability to deploy projects in real-world scenarios and provide technical guidance on complex issues.

What Will Make You Successful

Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, and presentation skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities with flexibility in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to work cooperatively with others in a team-oriented, cross-functional environment.
Ability to adapt to changing priorities, remain focused for extended periods, and multitask effectively.
A strong desire and willingness to learn and apply new technologies.
A master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field is preferred.
Knowledge of computer networks, network architecture, Windows system configurations and performance, and Linux is preferred.
Experience with security testing and standards, Docker, Kubernetes, shell scripting, media types, video formats, and resolutions is preferred.

Physical and Role Requirements

Ability to perform light, occasional physical work.
Ability to sit for extended periods.
Ability to lift equipment weighing up to 20 pounds.
Ability to maintain productive working relationships and treat colleagues with respect.
Ability to communicate effectively across departments and functions.
Accountability for delivering high-quality solutions and product releases in a timely manner.
Adherence to KARL STORZ safety protocols, Quality Management System requirements, document standards, coding standards, and development processes.
This position does not supervise others and works with occasional oversight from the department manager.

Why KARL STORZ?

Join KARL STORZ and be part of a team creating medical innovations that truly make a difference. Beyond technology, you’ll be part of a culture that values talent as its greatest asset, empowering you to contribute to a mission that improves patient care worldwide.

Ready to make an impact? Apply to be our next Software Engineer III and help us build the future of MedTech together.
