Custodial: Groundskeeper - High School

Position Summary: Working with a team to maintain an attractive, sanitary and safe facility; providing adequate arrangement for meetings, classroom activities and events, minimizing property damage, loss and liability exposure, and performing comprehensive maintenance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Ability to use and operate lawn equipment including but not limited to lawn mowers, weed trimmers, edger, rototiller, spreading equipment, aerators, hedge trimmer, chain saw, etc.
• Ability to maintain sports fields, including line striping, fertilization, seeding, plugging, weeding, etc.
• Ability to maintain bushes, shrubs, plants, trees, mulch, on entire campus and keep campus clear of debris, fallen branches, etc.
• Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
• Perform custodial duties required to maintain a clean and sanitized environment within the school buildings.
• Ability to operate snow blower, snow removal equipment, as well as salt spreading equipment.
• Ability to paint and knowledge of the use of painting equipment.
• Ability to perform duties necessary to maintain sports fields, including baseball, softball, soccer, lacrosse, field hockey, cross country.
• Ability to safely use power tools, hand tools, etc.
• Ability to read and understand instructions and assembly manuals.
• Ability to make repairs to building systems, including plumbing, electrical, lighting, doors, etc.
• Ability to work with others and become a valuable team member.
• Must understand the importance of the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Must be able to adhere to all school standards and policies.

Knowledge and Ability:

• Knowledge of modern cleaning methods and use of cleaning materials and equipment.
• Knowledge of safe work practices.
• Ability to climb step and extension ladders.
• Ability to regularly lift/move up to 10 pounds and occasionally move and/or lift up to 100 pounds.
• Ability to regularly stand and/or walk for extended periods.
• Ability to bend, stoop kneel, crawl, balance, and crouch.
• Ability to work with and apply basic mathematical concepts, such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.
• Demonstrated success in reading and writing English at a level required for successful job performance.
• Work on multiple projects and respond to requests and deadlines in an accurate and timely manner.

• At least a high school diploma or GED.
• At least one year of custodial experience in a school setting.
• Hold and maintain a Delaware driver's license.
• Satisfactory PPD, fingerprint, criminal background.
