Responsibilities
This position is a core member of the Johnstone Supply Finance team. The role supports the company’s financial planning and analysis (FP&A) function, including monthly reporting, budgeting, forecasting and business partnering, and contributes to strategic finance initiatives such as pricing and margin analysis, capital planning and the evaluation of acquisitions. The Associate partners directly with operational and executive leaders to explain what is driving performance and to identify opportunities to improve it. This is a high-visibility position reporting to the Director of Finance that offers broad exposure to how a growing, sponsor-backed distributor plans, measures and grows its business.
Financial Planning & Analysis and Business Partnering (approximately 70%)
- Lead the preparation of monthly financial reporting packages, including P&L results, KPI dashboards and variance analysis versus budget, forecast and prior year, with clear commentary on the underlying drivers.
- Support the annual budget and periodic reforecasts: build and maintain driver-based planning models, coordinate inputs from department, branch and regional leaders, and consolidate and validate results.
- Own and continuously improve forecasting, budgeting and reporting models in Excel and the company’s FP&A platform, ensuring accuracy, consistency and auditability.
- Partner with sales, operations, purchasing and branch leadership to understand the drivers of financial performance (volume, product mix, pricing, vendor rebates, operating expenses and working capital) and identify margin and efficiency opportunities.
- Support the month-end close by working with Accounting on accruals, reclassifications and reconciliations that affect reported results, and ensure management reporting ties to the general ledger.
- Perform ad hoc strategic finance analyses such as pricing and margin studies, branch and product-line profitability, working capital and cash flow analysis, capital expenditure evaluations, and scenario and sensitivity analysis.
- Prepare presentations and supporting analysis for the executive team, Board of Directors, lenders, auditors and private equity sponsors.
- Develop and maintain data sets and BI reporting that automate recurring analysis and improve visibility into business performance.
Strategic Finance & Corporate Development Support (approximately 30%)
- Support the evaluation of acquisitions and other growth investments such as new locations or additional product lines by building pro forma financial analyses, integrating target financials into company forecasts, and preparing summary materials for leadership.
- Assist with financial due diligence and post-close integration of acquired businesses, including onboarding acquired operations to Johnstone’s reporting, budgeting and planning processes.
- Analyze industry trends and competitive dynamics and provide insights to management and private equity sponsors.
- Support lender reporting and financing-related analysis, including covenant calculations and capital structure modeling.
