Original job description
Description
Do you apply hardware, software, and signal-processing expertise to solve complex RF-domain problems, particularly in electronic warfare (EW)?
Are you interested in developing, testing, and integrating new EW techniques to address national-security challenges?
If so, we're looking for someone like you to join our team at APL.
We are seeking an EW Technique Development & Test Engineer to develop, integrate, and assess prototype capabilities and EW techniques for next-generation EW systems. Your work will support U.S. and allied ability to operate effectively in contested RF environments.
You will work with systems engineers, algorithm developers, FPGA and embedded-software engineers, and EW specialists to develop EW techniques, transition concepts into testable capabilities, and evaluate their performance. Projects span EW technique development, RF test and integration, and analysis of radar and communications systems.
As an Electronic Warfare Technique Development, Test, and Integration Engineer, you will...
- Study current and emerging radar and communications systems to evaluate their performance and identify opportunities for EW technique development and hardware/software innovation.
- Develop EW techniques, integrate prototype hardware and software capabilities, test novel concepts, and evaluate performance/effectiveness.
- Design, conduct, and analyze laboratory tests and demonstrations to characterize EW technique and system performance.
- Build and maintain RF budgets and conduct basic size, weight, and power (SWaP) analyses.
- Communicate technical findings, test results, and recommendations to sponsors and APL staff.
Qualifications
You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...
- Possess a bachelor’s degree in engineering with a concentration in signal processing, embedded software, FPGA design, RF design, or a related discipline.
- Have at least five years of relevant experience in EW technique development, RF test and integration, or related RF systems engineering.
- Have strong C++ programming experience.
- Have strong MATLAB or Python programming experience.
- Have strong familiarity with RF test equipment, including signal generators and spectrum analyzers.
- Have basic experience performing SWaP analyses and building and maintaining RF budgets.
- Are able to obtain an Interim Secret-level clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a TS/SCI-level security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...
- Possess a master’s degree or Ph.D. in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related discipline.
- Have at least ten years of experience in EW technique development, RF test and integration, or related RF systems engineering.
- Have experience with FPGA design, particularly Xilinx Vivado and Vitis.
- Have experience developing and testing EW systems.
- Have experience with signal processing for radar and communications systems.
- Have experience using Git/GitLab, Java, Linux environments, and writing shell scripts.
