At Freddie Mac, our mission of Making Home Possible is what motivates us, and it’s at the core of everything we do. Since our charter in 1970, we have made home possible for more than 90 million families across the country. Join an organization where your work contributes to a greater purpose.

Position Overview:

Welcome to Financial Engineering - where advanced financial models become high-impact software solutions. Our team builds the systems that generate many of the critical numbers used to drive business decisions across the enterprise. Our platforms support a wide range of business functions, including interest rate and credit risk management, investment analysis and trading, security issuance, automated loan underwriting, distressed loan decisioning, economic and regulatory capital, property valuation, financial reporting, and economic and GAAP forecasting. If you are excited by the opportunity to work at the intersection of technology, finance, machine learning, and large-scale data processing, this role is for you.

Our Impact:

The Model Application Development team is responsible for transforming financial and machine learning models into scalable, reliable, production-ready applications. We evaluate millions of loans every day using modern ML algorithms and deliver these capabilities through APIs and web services that integrate with enterprise applications. Our team plays a key role in implementing underwriting, servicing, and loss mitigation models that directly support business decisions.

Your Impact:

  • Automating and deploying financial models built using ML algorithms.
  • Maintaining underwriting models and credit data processing applications.
  • Deploying model configurations using market and economic data for loss mitigation models.
  • Building and supporting APIs that allow financial models to integrate with enterprise IT applications.
  • Performing performance tuning, stress testing, and optimization of model applications.
  • Participating in model tie-outs and reconciling application results with model outputs.
  • Identifying and resolving issues related to model implementation and data discrepancies.
  • Fixing software security vulnerabilities identified through SAST and FOSS scans.
  • Conducting code reviews and providing technical guidance to junior developers.
  • Leveraging modern AI-assisted software development tools such as GHCP/GitHub Copilot to improve developer productivity, accelerate application development, enhance code quality, and support engineering best practices.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality, secure, and business-critical solutions.

Qualifications:

We are looking for a technically strong and analytically minded software engineer with a passion for building reliable, scalable applications.

Ideal candidates will have:

  • Typically 2–4 years of related experience.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computational Finance, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related quantitative field or equivalent experience; work towards advanced studies/degree preferred.

•

  • Strong back-end development experience with:
  • Java
  • Python
  • Spring / Spring Boot
  • Hibernate
  • Experience with relational databases and data-driven applications.
  • Experience with automated testing frameworks and practices, including:
  • JUnit
  • Performance testing
  • Regression and functional testing
  • Familiarity with DevOps and CI/CD tools such as:
  • Git
  • Gradle
  • Docker
  • Jenkins
  • Kubernetes

Keys to Success in this Role:

To thrive in this position, you should bring:

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • The ability to work effectively with engineers, model developers, and business customers.
  • A curious, analytical, and creative mindset.
  • Strong attention to both business and technical details.
  • A passion for building high-quality solutions that improve customer outcomes.
  • A commitment to continuous improvement, automation, and engineering excellence.

Why Join Us? This is an opportunity to work on meaningful technology that directly influences major financial decisions. You will be part of a collaborative engineering team that solves complex problems, applies modern technology, and turns sophisticated financial models into real-world business solutions. If you enjoy building scalable applications, working with machine learning models, using modern engineering tools, and solving challenging financial technology problems, we would love to hear from you.
