Original job description

Company Overview:

At Comtech Telecommunications Corp, in the Allerium business segment, every connection counts. With roughly 700 employees, we design, deploy, and operate the mission-critical communications infrastructure that public safety agencies and emergency responders depend on every minute of every day. Comtech Allerium is powering Next Generation 911 and carrier emergency services across North America. We are helping shape the future of emergency communications - making it more resilient, scalable, intelligent, and accessible. If you're looking for work that combines meaningful impact, complex challenges, and the opportunity to build technology people genuinely depend on, there's a place for you at Comtech Allerium. For more on Allerium, please go to www.allerium.com.

Position Summary:

We are looking for a Senior Network Engineer to join our Infrastructure Operations team in delivering lifesaving Next-Generation 911 (NG911) solutions. In this role, you will manage the backbone that supports tens of millions of citizens and thousands of Emergency 911 centers (PSAPs) across North America. Working across more than a dozen global data centers, you will have direct ownership of on-premises and cloud-based networking for our largest customers ensuring that these mission-critical systems are automated, optimized, and always available.

Responsibilities:

Hands-on Network Engineering: Provide extensive support for network architecture, deployments, software upgrades, life-cycle management & troubleshooting across our development and production environments. Provide technical direction and establish engineering standards across multi-vendor platforms.
Technical Strategy and Architecture: Contribute to defining long-term infrastructure strategy and lead implementation initiatives that improve scalability, security, automation, and operational efficiency.
Operational Leadership: Serve as a senior technical escalation point for complex operational issues, critical incidents, and major infrastructure upgrades. Drive resolution efforts while ensuring high availability, resiliency, and reliability for mission-critical NG911 services.
Technical Mentorship: Mentor and guide engineers across the organization by promoting engineering best practices, operational excellence, and knowledge sharing.
Optimization & Reliability: Identify network bottlenecks, resiliency gaps, and performance improvement opportunities across production environments. Partner with cross-functional engineering teams to implement scalable and sustainable solutions.
Automation: Develop and enhance network automation, monitoring, and operational tools using Infrastructure-as-Code and scripting methodologies.
On-Call Support: Participate in the Network Engineering on-call rotation and provide leadership during high-severity incidents within a 24x7 mission-critical environment.

Requirements:

Core Technical Expertise: Strong hands-on experience with enterprise and carrier-grade networking technologies including Cisco and Juniper routing/switching platforms, Juniper / Palo Alto firewalls and F5 or Citrix load balancing solutions.
Advanced Networking: Deep understanding of networking protocols including BGP, OSPF, MPLS, SD-WAN, route redistribution, traffic engineering, and high-availability network design and implementation.
Cloud Networking: Experience supporting hybrid cloud networking environments, with a solid understanding of AWS networking services, cloud connectivity, routing, network segmentation, and security principles.
Automation / scripting: Experience with network automation, scripting, or Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Python, Ansible, Terraform, or APIs is highly desirable.
Problem Solving: A track record of solving complex technical problems in a collaborative, fast-paced setting.
Technical Ownership & Accountability: Self-driven leader with strong ownership mindset, capable of working independently, driving initiatives to completion, and making sound technical decisions in high-pressure situations.
Communication skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to clearly present technical concepts, recommendations, and operational impacts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field, with 8–10 years of hands-on experience in network engineering, preferably in large-scale enterprise or service provider environments.
Network: CCNP, JNCIP (CCIE / JNCIE preferred), or equivalent advanced networking certifications are required.
Cloud: AWS Practitioner or higher-level cloud certifications.
Specialized: Advanced experience with Cisco and Juniper routing/switching platforms, Palo Alto firewalls (including Panorama), and F5 or Citrix load balancers.

This position requires compliance with Comtech’s Drug-Free Workplace Program. Candidates must successfully complete a pre-employment drug screening as a condition of hire. Employees may be subject to random, reasonable suspicion, and post-incident testing. Illegal drug use - including marijuana, regardless of state law - is disqualifying under federal adjudicative guidelines and DoD DFARS requirements. The pay range reflects the expected base salary for this position. Final compensation will be based on role, level, skills, experience, and geographic location. Comtech Telecommunications Corp. is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability protected veteran status or other characteristics protected by law.
