Original job description

The role Build the system that controls how our products change, from the first change request to the BOM on the shop floor. You will design and own BPP's configuration management function: engineering change control (ECR/ECO/ECN), BOM structure standards, and the engineering release process from SolidWorks PDM into Microsoft Dynamics 365. This is a greenfield role. You will not inherit a mature process to administer. You will set the standard, implement it in PDM and D365 while our D365 rollout is underway, and run it as BPP grows. Product Engineering owns the design, and Manufacturing Engineering owns how it gets built. You own how it changes and how it gets released. That means making sure every change is assessed, approved, structured correctly, released cleanly, and traceable afterward. Why Butcher Power Products BPP builds mission-critical power distribution equipment, including UL 891 switchboards, switchgear, and panelboards, for data centers, hospitals, and industrial customers. Our customers come to us because we deliver in a fraction of typical OEM lead times. That speed only works if the engineering data behind every build is right, which is why this role matters. A culture people vote for. BPP was named a 2026 Sacramento Bee Top Workplace in its first year of participating, with recognition for leadership, innovation, professional development, and work-life flexibility. POWER: People On a Mission With Integrity Empower Results. We hold ourselves to quality, speed, and reliability, and we stand behind our work: done right, or we make it right. Real ownership. You'll have the backing of the PMO and leadership to set the standard, plus a seat at the table as we shape D365 and our engineering systems. Built here. Sales, engineering, fabrication, and assembly all happen locally in the Sacramento region. You'll see your process work its way onto the shop floor. Growth. BPP is scaling fast, and the systems you build will carry that growth. What you'll own Build the configuration management system. Define BPP's change policy, workflow stages, roles, approval gates, forms, and revision and effectivity rules. Document it as a repeatable standard, roll it out across all product lines, and keep improving it. Run engineering change control. Own the ECR/ECO/ECN lifecycle from intake through review, disposition, release, and verified closure. Lead the change control board so changes are assessed by the right people and decided quickly. Product Engineering approves the change, and you drive the process that gets it there. Coordinate impact assessment. For each change, pull in Product Engineering (fit, form, function), Manufacturing Engineering (process and floor impact), Quality (conformance), and Supply Chain (cost, sourcing, inventory). Nothing is released with unassessed consequences. Set BOM structure and item master standards. Define how BOMs are built: levels, phantoms and kits, option and configuration handling, part numbering, and item master data rules. Own the EBOM-to-MBOM handoff with Manufacturing Engineering so engineering structures turn into buildable, plannable manufacturing BOMs. Own engineering release to production. Run the release process from SolidWorks PDM into D365, covering new item creation, BOM and route versions, product release, and effectivity, so Planning, Purchasing, and the floor have complete, usable data on day one. Administer PDM and shape D365. Configure and maintain SolidWorks PDM workflows, states, transitions, revision schemes, and approval routing. Act as the configuration management lead in D365 engineering change and product release setup, including PDM-to-ERP integration. Manage effectivity and cut-in. Set effectivity, coordinate disposition of existing inventory and WIP with Planning and Supply Chain, and track each change to confirmed implementation on the floor. Guard data integrity and traceability. Keep BOMs, drawings, specifications, and revision levels accurate and consistent from PDM through D365. Maintain an auditable change history to support ISO 9001 and the QMS, and serve as the change control contact during audits. Measure and report. Track cycle time, backlog, aging, and on-time implementation, and keep the change queue moving. Train and drive adoption. Teach engineers, technicians, and cross-functional teams the process and tools, and be the go-to source for the status of any change. What you bring Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, or Industrial), or equivalent technical experience. 5+ years in configuration management, engineering change management, product data management, or a related engineering role in manufacturing. A track record of building or significantly maturing a change management or configuration management process, not just operating an established one. Hands-on experience configuring or administering PDM/PLM change workflows. Strong knowledge of the ECR/ECO/ECN lifecycle, revision control, and effectivity and cut-in management. Solid understanding of BOM structure, including EBOM vs. MBOM, multi-level and configured BOMs, and item master data. Ability to read engineering drawings and interpret CAD data. Ability to lead cross-functional decisions and hold deadlines without direct authority. Detail-oriented and organized, with clear written and verbal communication. Nice to have SolidWorks PDM administration (workflows, states, revision schemes). Microsoft Dynamics 365 experience, especially engineering change management, product release, and BOM/route versioning, or experience with PDM-to-ERP integration. CMII or other configuration management certification, or familiarity with EIA-649. Working knowledge of ISO 9001 and document control. Background in switchboard, switchgear, or panel manufacturing, with familiarity with UL 891, UL 67, NEC, and ANSI as they apply to released design documentation. Experience with structured problem-solving methods such as 8D or A3.
