Original job description

Senior Software Engineer

$150000 - $225000 per year | San Francisco, CA | Remote | Permanent

Help build the future of digital identity at an early-stage AI startup where you'll own and scale cutting-edge technology from the ground up!

A bit about us:

We're an early-stage AI and biometrics startup on a mission to make the internet more human, secure, and trustworthy.

Our technology combines cutting-edge AI, and identity verification to help organizations distinguish real people from bots, deepfakes, and digital fraud. We're building a privacy-first platform that enables secure verification directly from a smartphone, without specialized hardware.

We're a small, highly technical team tackling some of the most interesting challenges in AI, cybersecurity, and digital identity. We're looking for engineers who love building from the ground up, thrive with autonomy, and want to have a direct impact on the future of online trust.

Why join us?

True 0→1 Ownership: Build and scale core products from the ground up, with real influence over architecture and technical direction

AI-Native Engineering: Work with Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, and modern AI development tools every day.

High-Impact Team: Collaborate directly with the Head of Engineering on challenging technical problems without layers of bureaucracy.

Cutting-Edge Technology: Build at the intersection of AI, biometrics, cybersecurity, and fraud prevention.

Remote Flexibility: Work remotely from San Francisco or NYC, with occasional opportunities to collaborate in person.

Equity Upside: Join an early-stage company where your contributions directly shape the product and business.

Engineering Autonomy: Own what you build, make meaningful technical decisions, and see your work reach production.

Job Details

We're hiring a Senior Software Engineer to help architect, build, and scale the core infrastructure behind our AI-powered identity verification platform. This is a hands-on engineering role with significant ownership across backend systems, APIs, and product development.

What You'll Do:

Design, build, and own production backend services primarily using Golang.

Take products and features from initial concept through development, deployment, monitoring, and scaling.

Architect scalable APIs, data models, and cloud-based distributed systems.

Build developer-facing APIs, integrations, and internal platform tooling.

Work with TypeScript, React, and Next.js across the product when needed.

Own database design, PostgreSQL schemas, migrations, and performance optimization.

Leverage AI-assisted development tools to accelerate engineering while maintaining high code quality.

Debug complex production issues using logs, metrics, distributed tracing, and source code.

Collaborate directly with engineering leadership on architecture, security, and technical strategy.

What We're Looking For:

5+ years of professional software engineering experience.

Strong backend engineering experience with Golang or a comparable language such as Python, Java, or TypeScript.

Proven experience building products from 0→1 and scaling production systems.

Strong understanding of APIs, distributed systems, data modeling, and cloud infrastructure.

Experience owning production services beyond initial deployment.

Working familiarity with TypeScript and React.

Hands-on experience using AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Codex, with the judgment to critically review generated code.

Ability to work independently, solve ambiguous problems, and communicate technical decisions clearly.

Must be based in San Francisco or New York City.

Nice to Have:

Kubernetes, Kafka, Redis, gRPC, PostgreSQL, or GitOps.

Experience in identity verification, cybersecurity, fraud prevention, or biometrics.

Early-stage startup experience.

Open-source contributions or meaningful personal projects.

Experience building autonomous or agentic developer tools.

Location: Remote - San Francisco or NYC based

Compensation: $150K–$215K base + up to 0.5% equity
