Senior Data Architect (BI / SQL)

$160000 - $185000 per year | Orange, CA | On-site | Permanent

Fast Growing Renewables Company

A bit about us:

We are an established, industry-leading organization with a large-scale operation and a continued focus on modernizing the technology and data platforms that support our business.

We are looking for a highly experienced Senior BI / Data Architect / SQL Server DBA to take hands-on ownership across our enterprise data environment. This is a unique hybrid role for someone who enjoys working across business intelligence, data architecture, data engineering, and database administration rather than being limited to one area.

Why join us?

$160–$185K base + bonus potential

High-impact senior technical role with significant ownership

Opportunity to architect and build, not just maintain existing systems

Ownership across the complete enterprise data lifecycle

Modern Microsoft-focused data and BI environment

Direct exposure to business leaders, technical teams, and executive stakeholders

Mix of new development, architecture, optimization, and modernization

Stable, established organization with complex enterprise-scale data challenges

Opportunity to influence technical standards and long-term data architecture

Job Details

We are seeking a senior, hands-on data professional who can own solutions from requirements and architecture through development, deployment, optimization, and production support.

This is not simply a Power BI/dashboard development position and not a traditional DBA role. The ideal candidate can architect the solution, build it, deploy it, and support it in production.

What You'll Be Doing

Design and maintain enterprise data warehouses, data marts, staging environments, semantic layers, and reporting architectures

Develop dimensional data models utilizing fact/dimension tables, star and snowflake schemas, and historical data strategies

Build and support production ETL/ELT pipelines using technologies such as SSIS, Azure Data Factory, Microsoft Fabric, and T-SQL

Integrate data across SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle, Azure SQL, APIs, files, and other enterprise systems

Build governed Power BI datasets, semantic models, dashboards, KPIs, and executive reporting

Develop complex T-SQL, stored procedures, views, functions, tables, indexes, and data-processing routines

Own SQL Server performance tuning and troubleshoot queries, ETL processes, reports, blocking, deadlocks, and resource issues

Administer production SQL Server environments, including security, backup/recovery, disaster recovery, monitoring, migrations, upgrades, and availability

Implement data-quality, reconciliation, auditing, lineage, logging, alerting, and error-handling processes

Ensure accuracy and consistency from source systems through final reporting

Partner directly with business leaders, analysts, application teams, and executives to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions

Support SDLC, testing, UAT, deployments, change control, documentation, and production incident response

Provide architectural guidance, code/design reviews, technical standards, and mentorship to other team members

What We're Looking For

8+ years of progressive experience across BI, data engineering, data warehousing, database architecture, and/or SQL Server administration

Expert-level SQL Server and T-SQL

Strong hands-on experience with data warehouse architecture and dimensional modeling

Experience personally designing conceptual, logical, and physical data models

Strong ETL/ELT development experience with SSIS and/or modern cloud data services

Advanced Power BI experience including data modeling, Power Query, DAX, security, deployment, and refresh administration

Working knowledge of SSRS

Real-world production SQL Server DBA experience including backup/recovery, security, monitoring, troubleshooting, migrations, upgrades, and high availability

Strong SQL performance-tuning and troubleshooting skills

Ability to independently own complex technical projects from architecture through production

Strong communication skills with the ability to work directly with both technical and nontechnical stakeholders

The Ideal Profile

We're looking for someone who has personally designed the data model, written the complex SQL, built the production ETL pipeline, developed the Power BI solution, administered SQL Server, validated source-to-report accuracy, and troubleshot critical production issues.

This is an opportunity for someone who has built their career across the Microsoft data ecosystem and wants true end-to-end technical ownership, rather than being responsible for only one piece of the data stack.
