Original job description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Windows Systems Engineer (Application Packaging / Endpoint Environment) based in the United States.
As a Windows Systems Engineer, you will help modernize and maintain a large-scale endpoint environment, supporting technologies such as Windows 11, Microsoft 365, and enterprise device management platforms. You will focus on application packaging, endpoint configuration, software deployment, patching, and vulnerability remediation to ensure secure and reliable user experiences. Working across technical teams, you will develop automation solutions, troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues, and improve endpoint performance and availability. You will also leverage AI tools responsibly to support modern workplace technology initiatives. This role combines hands-on engineering, scripting, operational support, and cross-functional collaboration in a dynamic enterprise environment.
Accountabilities
You will contribute to endpoint modernization initiatives while ensuring the stability, security, and performance of enterprise devices and supporting technologies.
• Support the modernization of the endpoint environment, including Windows 11, Microsoft 365, and other workplace transformation technologies.
• Coordinate and execute endpoint updates, patching, application packaging, application store publishing, vulnerability remediation, and pilot testing across multiple teams.
• Use AI tools to develop secure and reliable endpoint solutions, selecting appropriate technologies and ensuring responsible data handling.
• Maintain and support endpoint technologies across modern Windows, iOS, and Android operating systems.
• Develop and maintain automation scripts using PowerShell and VBScript to address endpoint issues and streamline operational tasks.
• Package and deploy applications using tools such as Flexera WiseScript and InstallShield.
• Automate endpoint health remediation, including service monitoring, system restarts, disk space management, CPU utilization, and Event Log analysis.
• Remove legacy software, deploy updates, and resolve technical issues across user devices.
• Investigate component-level availability and performance issues, coordinating with vendors to implement approved solutions.
• Track and document tickets throughout their lifecycle, including technical discussions, GitHub script revisions, time logs, testing schedules, and Tanium deployment targets.
• Install, test, and independently implement complex infrastructure and component-level changes.
• Conduct isolation testing to identify faulty hardware and software components.
• Follow established change management and testing procedures, escalating unexpected findings and atypical issues promptly.
• Develop action plans to resolve identified faults and monitor outcomes through completion.
• Use platform management systems to operate, monitor, and maintain endpoint environments.
• Perform capacity and performance analysis and recommend improvements to optimize platform reliability and efficiency.
• Develop recommendations and implementation procedures for new hardware and software, preparing technical documentation and presentation materials as needed.
• Maintain comprehensive technical documentation, configuration records, troubleshooting procedures, and ticket histories.
• Establish and improve operational processes to deliver reliable, high-quality technology services.
• Provide customer-facing technical assistance, user training, and knowledge sharing.
• Transfer technical knowledge to less experienced IT team members and support their professional development.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in Windows systems engineering and endpoint management, with strong scripting and application packaging capabilities. They should be comfortable managing complex technical environments while collaborating with diverse teams and supporting end users.
• Degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field. If the degree is not in an applicable field, an additional four years of related professional experience is required.
• At least 8 years of relevant professional experience.
• Strong proficiency in PowerShell scripting, particularly for creating and deploying Windows application packages within endpoint environments.
• Hands-on experience with Tanium and related endpoint management technologies.
• Practical knowledge of application packaging tools such as Flexera WiseScript and InstallShield.
• Experience supporting modern Windows, iOS, and Android operating systems.
• In-depth understanding of distributed system architectures and their hardware and software components.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex endpoint and infrastructure issues, analyze performance problems, and implement effective solutions.
• Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Strong customer service skills and experience addressing user needs in a Service Center environment.
• Excellent multitasking, time management, and prioritization skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Proactive and resourceful approach to problem-solving in a dynamic and changing environment.
• Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain a Position of Public Trust clearance.
• Must have lived in the United States for the previous five years.
• Must not have spent more than six months traveling outside the United States during the previous five years. Military service is excluded from this restriction.
Benefits
• Remote work arrangement.
• Contract-to-hire employment opportunity.
• Opportunity to contribute to enterprise-scale endpoint modernization and workplace transformation initiatives.
• Hands-on exposure to modern endpoint technologies, automation, application packaging, and AI-assisted solutions.
