We are looking for an experienced Senior Business Development Manager to drive market expansion across the United States and Canada, with a strong focus on local government partnerships. This role offers the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with public-sector decision-makers and secure strategic, multi-year commercial agreements. You will own the entire sales cycle, from prospecting and initial engagement to negotiations and closing. Working in a growing international environment, you will help shape regional go-to-market strategies and establish scalable business development processes. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to bring market insights into product and commercial decisions. This is an exciting opportunity to combine entrepreneurial ownership, commercial leadership, and meaningful social impact through public-sector innovation. Accountabilities

In this role, you will lead business development activities and contribute to the organization's long-term growth across the North American public sector. Your main responsibilities will include:

• Own the full sales cycle, including prospecting, discovery, product demonstrations, proposal development, procurement processes, negotiations, and contract closing.

• Build and maintain strong relationships with local government stakeholders, including city managers, mayors, CIOs, and communications, community engagement, and planning teams.

• Develop and manage your own sales pipeline through proactive outreach, referrals, lead nurturing, networking, and industry events.

• Identify new market opportunities and drive the acquisition of cities and counties across the United States and Canada.

• Bring structure, strategic direction, and senior-level expertise to regional go-to-market activities.

• Help develop and refine scalable business development processes and sales playbooks for the North American team.

• Collaborate closely with regional colleagues and international teams to align commercial priorities and growth initiatives.

• Share market intelligence and customer feedback with Product, Marketing, and Government Success teams to support strategic decision-making.

• Contribute to the organization's broader expansion strategy through commercial insights and strong execution.

Requirements

The ideal candidate combines extensive public-sector experience with strong commercial capabilities, an entrepreneurial mindset, and a passion for building lasting relationships. You should bring:

• At least 7 years of experience working with or within local government, particularly in public-sector consulting, urban planning, community engagement, GovTech business development, partnerships, or startup market expansion.

• A proven track record of commercial achievements, including successfully securing contracts, partnerships, grants, or generating revenue.

• Experience in consultative sales and relationship management, with the ability to engage senior public-sector stakeholders and understand their needs.

• An entrepreneurial and proactive mindset, with the ability to independently identify opportunities, build pipelines, and drive business development initiatives.

• Strong organizational and process-management skills, combined with resilience and adaptability when navigating complex public-sector environments and extended sales cycles.

• Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the confidence to engage prospects through cold calls, meetings, demonstrations, and formal presentations.

• A collaborative and coachable approach, with the ability to work effectively across regional and international teams.

• A genuine interest in mission-driven work, public-sector innovation, and strengthening democratic participation.

• Current residence in the United States, preferably within the Eastern or Central time zone.

• Willingness to travel approximately 25–30% of the time.

Benefits

• Competitive annual on-target earnings (OTE) of $130,000–$160,000, including variable compensation.

• 50/50 compensation structure, with an equal split between base salary and variable pay.

• Fully remote working flexibility.

• Healthcare benefits.

• 26 days of paid time off (PTO).

• Annual global team retreat.

• Dedicated training and professional development budget.

• Opportunity to take on a senior position within an international team of approximately 50 people operating across more than 20 countries.

• Potential career progression toward becoming Sales Lead, US.

• Opportunity to contribute to meaningful social impact through public-sector innovation.

• Collaborative, inclusive, and mission-driven working environment.
