Original job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a SQL Developer & Analyst based in the United States.

The SQL Developer & Analyst will support a major federal healthcare modernization initiative, contributing to the reliability and quality of clinical and operational data used across electronic health record (EHR) systems. This fully remote role focuses on SQL development, data analysis, reporting, and validation across large, complex datasets. You will help enable data migration, integration, and business intelligence activities while ensuring information remains accurate, complete, and consistent. Working within a multidisciplinary Agile team, you will collaborate with developers, data engineers, quality assurance specialists, and federal stakeholders. The position also offers opportunities to leverage AI-assisted tools to improve SQL development, automate data quality checks, and strengthen technical documentation in a security-conscious healthcare environment.

Accountabilities:

• Develop, maintain, and optimize advanced SQL queries, scripts, and transformation logic using Microsoft SQL Server to support data extraction, validation, reconciliation, and analysis.

• Analyze large clinical and operational datasets from multiple systems, identifying trends, anomalies, and discrepancies.

• Create and maintain reports, dashboards, and data visualizations using Power BI, Tableau, Microsoft Excel, and related business intelligence tools.

• Collaborate with developers, data engineers, and program stakeholders to assess data flows, source-to-target mappings, transformation requirements, and conceptual and physical data models.

• Support healthcare data warehouse and integration initiatives, including data migration and EHR modernization activities.

• Establish and maintain data quality monitoring processes, validation routines, and reconciliation reports to assess data completeness, accuracy, consistency, and timeliness.

• Investigate data discrepancies, perform exploratory analysis and root cause assessments, and document findings and corrective actions.

• Maintain technical documentation, including data dictionaries, mapping specifications, runbooks, and validation protocols.

• Support recurring reporting deliverables and identify opportunities to improve data analysis and reporting processes.

• Evaluate and use AI-assisted tools for SQL optimization, automated data quality checks, anomaly detection, and technical documentation, validating outputs and maintaining data security standards.

• Collaborate effectively within a remote Agile team and take on additional responsibilities as needed to support project objectives.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electronics Engineering, or another engineering or technical discipline, or eight additional years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.

• At least five years of relevant professional experience.

• Strong hands-on experience developing advanced SQL queries, scripts, and data extraction processes using Microsoft SQL Server, including work with large datasets and query performance optimization.

• Experience analyzing healthcare or clinical datasets, with familiarity with healthcare data standards and systems such as HL7, FHIR, or VistA.

• Experience supporting data validation, transformation, integration, and migration activities.

• Strong understanding of relational database structures, data modeling, indexing, normalization, and performance tuning.

• Practical experience developing reports and visualizations using Power BI, Tableau, or Microsoft Excel.

• Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities, with strong attention to detail and a focus on data accuracy and integrity.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Effective documentation and collaboration skills, with the ability to contribute within multidisciplinary teams.

• Experience supporting Department of Veterans Affairs healthcare data systems, such as VX130, Oracle Health Millennium, or the Corporate Data Warehouse (CDW).

• Familiarity with InterSystems IRIS, Caché, mirrored database architectures, or EHR data migration and cutover verification.

• Experience working in Agile environments and using tools such as JIRA or Azure DevOps.

• Knowledge of healthcare data governance, metadata management, source-to-target mapping, data quality monitoring, and technical documentation practices.

• Experience with AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot for SQL optimization, validation and reconciliation scripts, anomaly detection, trend analysis, and technical documentation.

• Understanding of AI output validation, protection of protected health information (PHI) and personally identifiable information (PII), and responsible AI practices in federal healthcare environments.

• U.S. citizenship is required.

• Must successfully complete a background check.

• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Government/Public Trust clearance, including fingerprinting, when required.

• Must reside within the continental United States.

• Visa sponsorship is not available.

Benefits:

• Medical, dental, and vision insurance.

• 401(k) retirement plan with employer match.

• Paid time off (PTO) and federal holidays.

• Corporate laptop provided.

• Training and professional development opportunities.

• Fully remote work arrangement.
