Software Engineering Practice Lead

We are seeking a senior technology leader to shape and drive the strategic direction of a growing Software Engineering practice within a broader AI and Automation organization. This Director-level opportunity is ideal for an experienced engineering or digital transformation leader who has developed technical capabilities in a consulting or professional services environment. You will bring together multidisciplinary teams across modern application development, cloud infrastructure, low-code platforms, and AI-enabled engineering. Working at the intersection of software engineering, consulting, and emerging technologies, you will define new capabilities and help translate market opportunities into impactful client solutions. You will also engage directly with senior clients, guide technical strategy, and contribute to business growth. This is a remote, full-time leadership position offering the opportunity to influence the future of technology consulting across a large US organization. Accountabilities

As Software Engineering Practice Lead, you will oversee the development, strategic positioning, and delivery of the Software Engineering capability within the wider AI and Automation practice. Your responsibilities will include:

• Lead and develop the Software Engineering practice, bringing together existing capabilities into a cohesive, high-performing consulting function.

• Define the strategic and technical vision for the practice, aligning its direction with evolving client needs and market opportunities.

• Assess current engineering capabilities and identify areas for investment, improvement, and expansion.

• Drive the development of new services, technologies, and engineering capabilities across modern application development, cloud, automation, and AI.

• Lead, mentor, and develop multidisciplinary technical professionals across software engineering, cloud infrastructure, and low-code technologies.

• Collaborate closely with teams focused on AI, Data Science, Strategy, and Governance to deliver integrated technology solutions.

• Engage directly with clients to understand business challenges, identify opportunities, and shape appropriate technology solutions.

• Guide projects from discovery and strategic planning through architecture, implementation, and delivery.

• Serve as a senior technical subject matter expert, advising client executives and technology leaders.

• Support business development and consulting growth through technical expertise, client relationships, and market credibility.

• Maintain meaningful involvement in architecture, engineering, and delivery to ensure technical direction translates into practical outcomes.

• Evaluate emerging technologies, including AI-assisted development and Agentic AI, and define how they can transform software engineering and consulting services.

Requirements

The ideal candidate is an established software engineering or digital engineering leader with a strong consulting background, commercial awareness, and the ability to combine technical expertise with strategic leadership. Candidates should bring:

• Significant leadership experience in software engineering, application development, digital engineering, or a related technology discipline.

• Experience working within a technology consulting, professional services, digital transformation, or client-facing engineering organization.

• A track record of leading multidisciplinary software engineering teams and developing technical talent.

• Direct experience engaging with clients and advising business, executive, and technical stakeholders.

• Experience building, scaling, or evolving a technology consulting practice or engineering capability.

• Strong knowledge of modern software engineering, application development, and technology architecture.

• Commercial awareness and experience contributing to consulting opportunities, service development, or business growth.

• The ability to shape technology strategy and translate strategic direction into successful delivery.

• Strong technical credibility across architecture, engineering, and implementation.

• A clear understanding of AI's impact on software development and the future of engineering practices.

• Excellent communication, leadership, mentoring, and stakeholder management skills.

Particularly Valuable Experience:

• Cloud-native software development and modern application architectures.

• AI-assisted software engineering and Agentic AI.

• Automation technologies and emerging digital engineering solutions.

• Microsoft Power Platform, Power Automate, and low-code development.

• Experience integrating multiple engineering disciplines into a unified consulting offering.

A deep specialization in one specific technology stack is not required. Broad technical knowledge, strategic perspective, and the ability to establish direction across different engineering capabilities are more important.

Benefits

• Annual base salary of up to $220,000, depending on experience.

• Discretionary performance bonus.
